at the discretion of the Chief Justice, be relocated to another part of the TCI)

 

JOB SUMMARY

To support the Judges of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal by conducting detailed legal research and writing, providing assistance and support where necessary during courtroom proceedings.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1)    Conducts legal research.

2)    Prepares legal opinions.

3)    Checks all legal authorities cited in written or oral submissions and conducts independent legal research.

4)    Reviews files for upcoming cases and prepares bench memoranda, and ensuring that all documents relevant to the hearing are on file.

5)    Edits and proofreads orders, judgments, decisions and rulings of Judges and prepares executive summaries of rulings and judgments.

6)    Updates the Judge(s) on recent legislation and notable decisions of local courts and of other jurisdictions.

7)    Provide administrative support to Executive Director, Office of the Chief Justice

8)    Any other related duties as assigned by the Chief Justice or Judges

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A Bachelorof Laws Degree
  • A Legal Education Certificate or equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Evidence of admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the Turks and Caicos  

        Islands Courts or of any Commonwealth country.

  • At least 3 years’ experience as an Attorney.
  • Experience in legal research will be an advantage.

 

 

RENUMERATION PACKAGE

 

Salary: Grade 8.1 - $54,789.20 per annum plus allowances

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two-year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 6%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
