Biomedical Engineer

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Biomedical Engineer. Under general supervision, the Biomedical Engineer installs, calibrates, diagnoses, repairs and inspects medical equipment. Performs inspection, testing and repair of medical equipment, ensuring that equipment functions within manufacturers’ specification and code requirements and in a manner which is safe for both patients and staff. Assist with ensuring that all medical equipment within the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority and the Community Health Services are maintained and service in a timely manner.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

  1. Performs preventative/scheduled maintenance on medical devices as required.
  2. Follows manufactures’ medical equipment management plan procedures, inspects, test, if necessary, newly acquired medical devices and system safety.
  3. Maintains proper documentation of repairs, calibrations, periodic safety inspections, preventative maintenance procedures.
  4. Responds, evaluates, troubleshoots, and corrects all medical equipment issues.
  5. Testing and maintenance of clinical equipment to ensure compliance.
  6. Inspects medical equipment to ensure accuracy and correct operations.
  7. Liaises with the Biomedical Manager to ensure the feasibility of medical equipment in terms of design, quality, and economic viability and to resolve any issues.
  8. Ensures that tools and medical equipment are properly maintained and kept in working condition.
  9. Monitors work performed by outside contractors to ensure requirements for medical equipment are met and results are documented properly.
  10. Tests all new and repaired equipment before the equipment is put into service and documents all equipment repairs and tests.
    1. Maintains permanent records for each piece of equipment which falls under the responsibility of the Biomedical Unit and always maintains complete and up-to-date records.
    2. Diagnoses system malfunctions on medical equipment and repairs or replaces defective parts, tests, and reinstalls repaired equipment according to approved service manual to ensure the device operates to OEM specifications
    3. In collaboration with the Clinical Educator and/or Clinicians provides training on the medical equipment to the end users.
    4. Works professionally and efficiently with all level within the organization
    5. Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices
    6. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience

v  ACADEMIC: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and/or Biomedical Engineering

v  3-4 years’ of technician experience working on medical equipment preferred

 

Licenses and/or registrations

v  N/A

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

v  Basic knowledge in the repair and maintenance of equipment technology

v  Basic knowledge of the technical aspects of electronic equipment and its operation, repair and maintenance.

v  Medical Terminology and Anatomy

v  Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

v  Ability to read electronic schematics and manufactures service manuals.

v  Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.

v  Efficient and detail-oriented

v  Computer literate and technically skilled

v  Ability to work independently (without constant supervision) and in a team environment

v  Knowledge of standard equipment, tools, practices, techniques, and materials common to the field

v  Basic knowledge of Medimizer and Maxpanda

 

Physical Demands

v  Ability lift at least 50LBS

v  The physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organization
