Job Summary
To provide business and technical analytical advice to support strategic decision making. The Business Operations Analyst will also provide economic analysis to support negotiations and inform strategic business/investment decisions. This officer will provide current and forecasted market intelligence on global science and technology trends as well as assistance in the preparation of the Monthly President’s report to the Board of Governors.
Duties and responsibilities
- Monitors and tracks the implementation of the strategic initiatives across the Institute and prepares monthly progress reports for presentation by the President.
- Prepares draft budget proposals for and administers the functions of the Office of the President within approved budgets.
- Provides business intelligence reports to support and influence the growth of new STI project ventures.
- Conducts Environmental scans for technical and economic global trends in science and technology and creates strategic reports
- Research and identify potential applications of science and technology as interventions/solutions to mitigate the risk of national environmental pain points to societal development.
- Conducts and coordinates financial, product, market, operations and related research to support strategic and business planning
- Interpret, evaluate and interrelate science and technology research data and develop integrated business analyses and projections for incorporation into strategic decision-making of the Institute
- Conducts cost-benefit analysis of new project ventures
- Maintains business intelligence information systems
- Participates in strategic planning processes
- Creates informative, actionable and repeatable reporting that highlights relevant business trends and opportunities for improvement
- Contributes to process mapping exercises for Institute and assists in technical report writing.
- Monitors the work of global Institutes and think tanks for scientific research and technology and champions newsletter on STI matters
Qualifications and Experience
- A First Degree in Economics, Business Management or Engineering (Process or Industrial)
- An Advanced Degree/Post Graduate Qualifications in Economics, Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management will be an asset.
- A minimum of six (6) years’ experience in a similar or related experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of global trends in science, technology and innovation
- Extensive knowledge of project planning and development
- Extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art technology/developments, policies and practices
- Knowledge of project management principles
- Strategic outlook and capable of conceptual thinking and sound decision making
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines
- Respectful of confidentiality required for the role and ability to treat with all issues in a manner that promotes the integrity of the Institute
- Demonstration of excellent communicative skills (both oral and written) with a high degree of persuasive skills
