Senior News Reporter (Bermuda)

The Royal Gazette Ltd, in Hamilton, Bermuda, is seeking applications for a Senior News Reporter. The successful applicant will report to the News Editor and work closely with the Assistant News Editor when required. You will possess a minimum 5 years’ experience as a journalist, with NQJ/NCE qualifications to senior level or equivalent. You will also have experience working in an electronic newsroom and be social media-savvy. Your specific duties will include:

• Accurate reporting of assigned content in a timely fashion and length in accordance with internal policies and procedures
• Ensuring the story packages are created in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
• Preparing content for distribution to social media channels
• Preparing breaking news for media channels in a timely manner
• Ensuring you comply with the Media Council Code of Conduct
• Ensuring that you abide by the approved Royal Gazette style guide
• Ensure the approved dictionary is Collins (hard copy) or collinsdictionary.com (online)
• Suggesting entries for the diary (calendar) of current and future events to ensure the department is covering the necessary events, understand the departments priorities, and following up on previously published content in a timely manner
• Being agile and identifying relevant content to report on in addition to diary entries
• Being responsible to accurately track your overtime, time in lieu and holiday time, and to submit this information your manager when requested.
• Ensuring that all requests for visual media (video, infographics, photographs) are identified and requested from the relevant manager
• Taking photographs or shooting video to ensure the necessary visual media is available for content
• Accepting occasional assignment to any assist with content creation for any department or publication
