We are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified person to fill the position of:

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY:

The Industrial Relations Manager will report to the Vice President, Human Resources.  The incumbent will be responsible for the industrial relations and employee relations functions.  You will develop and execute strategies related to collective bargaining, case management, conflict and dispute resolution, mediation, conciliation, grievance handling and representation in the courts, inter alia, to create and maintain an industrial relations climate characterized by consultation, collaboration, cooperation, trust, mutual regard and joint participation. The overarching purpose is to facilitate overall workplace performance and the furtherance of the business’ strategic imperatives.

 

KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • Compliance with Labor Laws and Regulations: Ensures compliance with the local and regional labor laws and regulations to foster stronger industrial relations and a positive work environment.

 

  • Administering of Collective Bargaining Agreements:  Advises Management on the interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements and ensures compliance with the company’s policies, terms and conditions.

 

  • Employee Complaints and Grievance Management: Utilize effective mediation and conflict resolution techniques to resolve workplace grievances, represents the Company at conciliation and arbitration stages and liaises with Management and RMU’s on employee related matters.

 

  • Relationship Management: Support executives, managers and supervisors across the organization in all territories. Work closely with a wide cross-section of internal and external stakeholders including representative bodies and associations, governmental agencies and the courts. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION: 

You must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations or a related field with evidence of specialized training in Industrial Relations.  You must possess a minimum of five (5) years’ continuous Industrial Relations experience managing IR and employee relations.  Strong working knowledge of the Industrial Relations Act and current Labour Laws/Regulations in Trinidad and Jamaica are essential, along with familiarity with the principles and techniques of collective bargaining / conciliation (including Ministry of Labour/Industrial Court procedures) and other methods of settling disputes.  You must have Knowledge of landmark Industrial Court Judgements and be able to draft Collective Agreements; evidence and arguments; and other IR related documentation.

 

A Master’s Degree in Labour Studies or a Bachelor of Laws Degree coupled with 40 hour mediation training and certification or any equivalent combination of training, qualifications and work experience will be considered an asset.
