JOB PURPOSE To secure Jamaica’s borders by processing arriving and departing passengers and crew, and applications for extension of stay

The Passport Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) invites applications from suitable qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant positions:

 POSITIONS AVAILABLE (25 Posts)

IMMIGRATION OFFICERS (LEVEL 4)

Sangster’s International Airport            -10 positions

Norman Manley International Airport -15 positions

            [Salary Scale:  $1,297,362 - $1,545,821 p.a. plus allowances]

JOB PURPOSE

•             To secure Jamaica’s borders by processing arriving and departing passengers and crew, and applications for extension of stay

KEY OUTPUTS                 

•             Arriving and departing passengers and crew processed

•             Requests for extension of stay processed

•             Reports prepared

•             Technical advice given

•             Satisfied customers

•             Country’s Visa Issued

•             Request for permanent resident status processed

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

•             Conducts interviews to ascertain purpose of travel or eligibility for extension of stay

•             Checks and verifies immigration and other documents to ensure compliance with Jamaican Immigration Laws and Regulations

•             Captures relevant information on the systems database

•             Liaises with the Investigating Unit and refers persons who have committed immigration breaches

•             Monitors persons who have been refused leave to land as well as foreign nationals being deported and awaiting their departing flights

•             Prepares required reports including cases of refusal and suspension of leave to land, stowaways, fraudulent documents and arrests

•             Collaborates with other units within the agency, to resolve issues expeditiously

•             Performs any other related duty that may be assigned

KEY COMPETENCIES - The post holder needs to demonstrate the following competencies:            

•             Excellent interviewing skills

•             Sound organisation skills

•             Sound interpersonal skills & customer service skills

•             Sound knowledge of office protocol

•             Sound knowledge of relevant computer applications and systems

•             Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 

Working Condition

•             Climbing rope ladder

•             Work at sea on vessel

•             24hr shift system

•             Long Hours of standing/ walking /sitting

•             Working with diverse people

QUALIFICATIONS - Education and Experience

•             Fluent in a foreign language

•             Sound analytical problem solving and critical thinking skills

•             Sound interpersonal skills, including handling conflicts

•             Diploma in Public Administration or Management Studies

•             Experience working in Border Security/Travel, leisure, hospitality and or an allied industry

•             Specialized training in Immigration Laws, Regulations and Passport Procedures

•             Two (2) years’ work experience
