The I.T. Specialist is responsible for maintaining and administering the Company’s computer hardware and software systems and databases. The role also involves providing technical assistance to system end users.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:   

Software Development:

  • Maintains and administers the Local and Wide Area Computer network and related computing environments, including but not limited to, computer hardware; file servers; systems software; applications software; and all related configurations.
  • Provides support to end users and Suppliers to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve network, hardware or software related problems.
  • Sets up equipment for employee use, including but not limited to, performing and/or ensuring proper functioning of computer hardware, cables, PBX telephones, operating systems and related software.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements network security measures to protect data and computer assets i.e., software and hardware.
  • Monitors and maintains optimum performance of all computer applications and databases, and makes recommendations to Management as required.
  • Completes and submits IT checklists according to set guidelines and schedules.
  • Assists with the support and Administration of the Help Desk software.
  • Follows standard help desk procedures ensuring that problems and their resolutions are recorded in the database and that proper follow up action is taken for timely resolution of problems.
  • Directs unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.
  • Configures, monitors and maintains email applications and virus protection software.
  • Assists with the proper completion and management of backup procedures as required.
  • Installs and upgrades software on Network Servers and User Computers.
  • Plans, coordinates and tests disaster recovery procedures, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Assists with planning, coordinating and consulting with External vendors for hardware/software support, purchases, upgrades and product services.
  • Assists with the coordination and implementation of special projects.
  • Generates timely reports on the Company’s computerized management and business intelligence software. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems Management, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP/CCNA).
  • MSCA or MCSE will be considered an asset. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Systems Administrator or similar role which includes network support, server infrastructure administration and the installation and management of computer networks.
  • Experience with virtualized environments, specifically VMware.
  • Demonstrated experience of Windows Server operating systems and associated technologies (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, TCP/IP).
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Cloud applications and Business Intelligence (BI) tools would be considered an asset. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of IBM AS400, Windows Active Directory/DNSServer Administration, SQL Server, Cognos, Avaya PBX system, Routers, Switches and Security Devices.
