Job Description

The Human Resources Manager for Jamaica District in the Southeastern Division contributes to Sherwin-Williams’ Area sales performance by providing human resources support to the Jamaica District Leadership and stores team, and throughout the remainder of the Caribbean Area; particularly in the areas of recruitment/selection, diversity and inclusion, training/development, talent management, performance management, compensation, succession planning and employee relations. The end result is that the assigned groups will have qualified employees to manage stores and territories. The incumbent will have a management style centered on good judgment, team building and accountability. This position is responsible for exercising independent judgement and decision-making pertaining to the management of HR related matters and is expected to making hiring, disciplinary action and/or termination recommendations when appropriate.
 

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company’s staff, employees, and business relationships.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business leaders to execute Company, Group and Division Initiatives.
  • Support functional stakeholders to achieve organizational and functional goals.
  • In conjunction with Leadership, maintain a presence in the field through store visits, training sessions and participation in Employee Resource Group events, Committee events and other business initiatives.
  • Work with business leaders to implement and maintain practices that encourage high levels of employee engagement and focus on retention, including the administration of the Employee Engagement Survey.
  • Provide employee relations support to assigned groups, including investigating and resolving employee relations issues and concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all national, regional, and local laws and regulations.
  • Lead the succession planning and talent review process in partnership with Leadership. Analyze data (e.g. turnover, diversity, retirements, etc.) to create Talent Management plans that address any talent gaps identified.
  • Support learning and development initiatives and work with business leaders to identify learning opportunities for their teams.
  • Assist in administering progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Ensure the Compensation/Salary policies and programs are administered consistently and ensure that pay equity is maintained.
  • Lead the performance management process for assigned groups, including reviewing performance appraisals for assigned employees to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Represent Company in partnership with external parties including but not limited to Ministry of Labor, Benefit Provider, Jamaica Employers’ Federation.
  • Review and approve timecards, as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

FORMAL EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree (GENERALLY, IF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IS ACCEPTABLE, THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THREE YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE FOR EVERY ONE YEAR OF COLLEGE EDUCATION REQUIRED) 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • Must be able to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to other Caribbean countries and the United States, as needed.
  • Must have the ability to operate a computer and communicate via the telephone.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Human Resources
  • Experience in investigating and resolving employee relations and loss prevention matters.
  • Experience in performance management, career planning, and career development techniques.
  • Familiarity with compensation review, incentive plans, and benefits programs.
  • Skilled at effective recruiting, interviewing and selection techniques.
  • Strong training skills and knowledge of effective training methods.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 30%  (TIME SPENT AWAY FROM HOME OR OTHER TYPICAL OFFICE LOCATION)

  • Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
  • Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
  • Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing HR support in a multi-location environment
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and gain commitment at all levels in the organization
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in recruiting, including working with applicant tracking systems and establishing recruitment processes
