Job Summary

The Workshop Manager will be responsible for the organization and management of the workshop and its day-to-day operations. This includes setting and maintaining workshop guidelines, scheduling and organizing work assignments, overseeing the quality and reliability of the work, hiring and performance management of staff, and communicating with a range of stakeholders. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the workshop runs smoothly and on time. The role includes setting up and breaking down the workshop space, managing staff, and providing instruction and support. Organizing and running the workshop includes handling quotations, estimates, inventory and schedules. Managing the financial performance of the workshop and keeping adequate records of all transaction are important requirements.

 

Key Requirements

  • Comprehensive mechanical and technical expertise that includes strong knowledge of vehicle, truck, and construction equipment repair and maintenance, including skid steers, excavators, backhoes, front loaders, trailers, and specialty vehicles (e.g. pothole patching and road painting trucks).
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills including expertise in diagnostic techniques for identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in diverse equipment.
  • Fleet management experience including proven ability to manage a large fleet, including preventive maintenance scheduling, repair prioritization, and tracking equipment usage and performance.
  • Possess experience and expertise in coordinating workshop operations effectively to ensure quick turnaround times and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Possess industry-specific compliance knowledge including familiarity with regulations and standards related to vehicle safety, emissions, and construction equipment compliance.
  • Solid experience in advanced inventory control and managing spare parts, consumables, and tools to ensure availability while controlling costs.
  • Budget management and resource allocation skills including proficiency in managing workshop budgets, optimizing resource allocation, and achieving cost efficiencies.
  • Strong team leadership and development skills, and experience supervising and train a team of technicians, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety standards.
  • Knowledge of workshop safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, and national protocols for safe equipment operation and repair.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with workshop management systems including familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or fleet management software for repair order tracking, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Strong Communication and Reporting Skills including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, provide detailed reports on fleet performance, and advise on capital investments or replacements.
  • Emergency Response and Contingency Planning knowledge with the capability of handling emergency repairs and plan for contingencies to maintain operations during critical breakdowns or shortages.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement strategies to enhance workshop productivity and reduce repair and maintenance cycle times.
  • Knowledge of environmentally friendly practices in fleet and equipment management, including waste disposal and sustainable repair methods.
  • Strong customer service orientation with experience in delivering timely and quality service to internal or external clients, ensuring their operational needs are met efficiently.
  • Appropriate technical qualifications/certifications in line with the role requirements.
