On behalf of our client, we are recruiting a skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join a reputable organization in Bermuda. This role offers a unique opportunity for a qualified professional seeking to relocate and contribute to the maintenance and efficiency of a well-managed fleet.

The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment. The role involves both on-premises work in the fleet garage and on-call duties to provide emergency roadside assistance or field repairs. The mechanic ensures that all vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring safe operations in compliance with safety standards and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform routine maintenance on heavy diesel vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, and other diesel-powered assets.
  • Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, and brake systems.
  • Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance to identify potential issues and address them proactively
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results to determine the root cause of malfunctions.
  • Recommend and implement effective repair solutions to minimize vehicle and equipment downtime.
On-Call and Field Service:
  • Respond to on-call requests for emergency repairs or breakdowns outside of regular working hours.
  • Perform field repairs at job sites or on the roadside, ensuring vehicles are safe to operate.
  • Maintain a stocked service vehicle with essential tools and parts for on-call duties.
Parts and Inventory Management:
  • · Identify and order necessary parts and materials for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • · Maintain accurate records of parts used, ensuring proper inventory levels are sustained.
  • · Collaborate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of components.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet regulatory compliance standards (e.g., DOT inspections).
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Complete detailed service reports, including diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance schedules, ensuring all vehicles and equipment are serviced on time.
  • Report any recurring issues or significant repairs to the Supervisor Fleets
Training and Development:
  • Stay updated on the latest technology, tools, and practices in heavy diesel mechanics.
  • Attend training sessions and certifications as required by the company.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
Customer Interaction:
  • Communicate with clients or drivers to understand the nature of vehicle problems and provide updates on repair status.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service, addressing concerns or questions in a professional manner.
  • Provide advice on vehicle care and maintenance to extend the lifespan of equipment.

Qualifications

 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in diesel mechanics or a related field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with expertise in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently, especially during on-call duties, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy parts and equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • On-Premises: Work in a well-equipped garage environment with access to necessary tools and equipment.
  • On-Call: Respond to repair needs in various conditions, including roadside environments and job sites. May involve working in adverse weather or under challenging conditions.
  • Hours: Regular hours with the expectation of on-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,500.00 - $77,000.00 per year
