HSE Officer

Salary: TTD8,000.00
Location: Port of Spain

Job Summary

The HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures within the organization. This includes working closely with HSE consultants and the HSE committee to ensure compliance with regulations, drive continuous improvement in safety practices, and support the company in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. The HSE Officer plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety and environmental awareness while ensuring that legal and corporate standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety Management:
    • Review policies and identify all required actions by the HSE Committee, Management and any other personnel and develop an action plan
    • Assist the HSE Committee in rolling out policies and procedures.
    • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, prepare detailed reports, and implement corrective actions.
    • Organise and conduct safety drills and emergency response exercises for employees.
  • Collaboration with HSE Committee:
    • Actively participate in and provide support to the HSE committee in the development and implementation of safety initiatives.
    • Assist in organising regular HSE committee meetings to discuss safety performance, review incidents, and plan corrective measures.
    • Provide the committee with detailed reports on health, safety, and environmental performance, incidents, and compliance status.
    • Ensure that feedback from the committee is incorporated into the continuous improvement of safety practices and procedures.
  • Consultant Collaboration:
    • Work closely with external HSE consultants to ensure that the company’s practices comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinate with consultants for specialized safety audits, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments.
    • Implement recommendations and improvements suggested by HSE consultants and track progress.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local, regional, and international health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
    • Serve as the point of contact for regulatory authorities and health and safety inspectors.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Set up a system for maintaining and updating accurate records of safety inspections.
  • Emergency Response and Incident Management:
    • Coordinate the company’s emergency response efforts in the event of workplace accidents, health crises, or environmental incidents.
    • Maintain and regularly inspect emergency equipment and ensure it is fully operational.
Key Requirements
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
    • Certifications in health, safety, and environment (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) are highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental roles (preferably within [industry-specific field, e.g., construction, manufacturing, etc.]).
    • Proven experience working with external consultants and internal safety committees to improve safety standards.
    • Familiarity with conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and environmental impact assessments.
    • Experience with regulatory compliance and dealing with safety inspectors.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external consultants.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk and develop solutions.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and HSE management software.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, particularly in cross-functional HSE committees.
