The HSS Coordinator oversees various projects while providing Health, Safety and Security advice to the Company and Contractors in order to achieve zero accidents/incidents and ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment Legislation.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Health Safety and Security (HSS) Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Programmes, oversees various projects while providing Health, Safety and Security advice to the Company and Contractors in order to achieve zero accidents/incidents and ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment Legislation.  He/She also assists the HSS Manager with the administration, implementation and enforcement of all programs, policies and procedures with respect to HSS for the organization
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the Health Safety and Security (HSS) Manager in developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing the Occupational Health and Safety Policies, Programs and Procedures.
  • Assist in planning, developing and coordinating safety programmes to minimize accidents, injury and incidental loss.
  • Develop safety consciousness among staff by implementing HSS staff awareness programmes that would ensure that staff consistently use safe work practices and knows how to respond in an emergency.
  • Review the operations of the Company to ensure that work is performed safely and consistent with the systems and guidelines developed.
  • Conduct safety Audits and risk assessments. Assist in the assessment of Health, Safety and Security needs of the organization.
  • Maintain records of all inspections done.
  • Provide Accident and Incident investigation and analysis and make recommendations to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Assess the various responsibilities to be carried out by staff and advises Safety and Health requirements of the job to prevent accidents and reduce the risks associated with jobs.
  • Review reports and statistical analyses on HSS matters and develop corrective measures where necessary.
  • Identify, investigate and report on complaints of hazardous working conditions.
  • Assist in the application for inspection of the facilities by Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services to attain our Fire and life certification for all facilities in conjunction with the HSS Manager
  • Assist in the coordination of training of personnel in areas of safety, including first aid, CPR, accident prevention and investigation, workplace inspections and other matters related to implementing safety procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency procedures and act as the emergency on-site coordinator in the absence of the Workplace Manager.
  • Conduct regular, routine inspections of all facilities, fire extinguishers and all other relevant and critical items to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations and report non-adherence to the HSS Manager on a timely basis with recommendations for appropriate action to be taken.
  • Conduct regular random walk around inspections as the authority to assess Personal Protective Equipment use and other relevant safety issues (housekeeping, extinguishers, safe working practices, etc.) near misses and address issues which arise out of these inspections.
  • Report observations/recommendations pertaining to HSE issues to the HSS Manager.
  • Collaborates with external agencies such as Fire Stations, Hospitals, the Police Service, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority and Insurance Companies on accidents, compensation and related matters.
  • Ensure that safe work practices are adhered to by contractors and other visitors. Oversee the activities of contracted security personnel to ensure that services adhere to the highest standards.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of a team environment by performing other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety and the Environment or related technical field.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a Health Safety and Security environment

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Competent in computer usage and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes (including Word, Excel and Power Point).
