The Role

The Manager of the Transport Department is responsible for overseeing all activities related to wellbeing of staff and upkeep of the Guardsman Group fleet of vehicles. To ensure efficient, safe, cost-effective and employ strategic technology to generate healthy finances in the vehicle maintenance operations

What You'll Be Doing

• Oversee the procurement, operation, and maintenance of all company vehicles
• Explore the alternate fuel vehicles for infusion into the company’s fleet
• Develop and implement policies for the effective management of the vehicle fleet
• Monitor vehicle usage and fuel consumption to optimize efficiency
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for all vehicles
• Coordinate in conjunction with Group Finance the disposal of old or damaged vehicles in an environmentally responsible manner
• Ensure comprehensive usage of the designated Fleetwave software for all aspect of the garage and accident reporting
• Plan and manage all transport operations to ensure timely and efficient delivery of parts and services
• Ensure the timeliness of accident estimates for insurance purposes
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for garaging activities
• Monitor all lease vehicles to ensure compliance with lessor’s terms of agreement and ensure minimum return cost
• Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all transport activities
• Monitor and evaluate transport operations to identify areas for improvement
• Inspecting vehicle to ensure compliance with establish standards
• Oversee regular maintenance and repair activities for all vehicles
• Establish a preventive maintenance schedule to minimize vehicle downtime
• Ensure the garage is equipped with the necessary tools and parts for vehicle maintenance
• Manage relationships with external service providers and suppliers for parts and repair services
• Monitor the performance of maintenance activities to ensure high quality standards
• Ensuring that all drivers and operators have the correct, up to date qualifications
• Maintaining and completing accurate records

A Little Bit About You

• Proven experience in managing transport operations and vehicle maintenance
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Proficient in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Transport and Logistics or related field
• Knowledge of motor vehicle repairs
• Minimum of 5 years work in a similar role
• Must have a valid Class C Driver’s Licence and a reliable motor vehicle
