Objective:

Prevent work accidents that may affect the health and well-being of the worker as well as the physical property of the company. To be a promoter of the Safety Culture during the execution of construction, remodeling and operational continuity projects of the Cement plants, Aggregate Quarries, Additive Plant, Cedis Logistics Facilities, Maritime Terminals, as well as HR projects (improvements to Cemex facilities) and Institutional Relations.  Establishing and implementing in each activity, the established safety rules and standards.

 

Main Responsibilities include:   

  • Understand and comply with the Integral Management System Policy, as well as comply with CEMEX's objectives (Quality, Environment, Safety and Health).
  •  Promote the CEMEX Mission, Vision and Values and engage staff by example.
  • Ensure the training of the personnel in charge, obtaining the corresponding accreditations.
  • Ensure the physical integrity of both internal personnel and contractors in charge, as well as that of the facilities, making respectful use of the environment and neighboring communities.
  • Foster a Safety Culture through the establishment of programs, systems, and procedures that involve the participation of all project personnel.
  • Carry out risk analysis by job and operation, establish measures for the prevention / correction of detected risk agents.
  • Perform safety inspections and audits of work areas.
  • Conduct training for the development of safety procedures and safe operating practices.
  • Establish industrial safety controls for contractors.
  • Assume leadership by verifying that the personnel (direct and indirect) in charge work in adequate safety and health conditions, ensuring they have the necessary instruments to carry out their activities safely.
  • Comply with labour legal system regulations in Jamaica.
  • Coordinate the Health and Safety Committee, participate in the investigation and analysis of accidents and work incidents.

 

 

Required Education/Skills:

  • BSc in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or equivalent to 3 -5 years of work experience.
  • Knowledge of OSH Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Jamaica Industrial Safety and Environment Laws.
  • Working under pressure skill.
  • Prevention of occupational accidents and diseases.
  • Excellent Supervisory/Leadership skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Time availability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Trainings and certifications desired:
    • Confined Space Safety Awareness Training
    • Hot work training
    • Safety weight load course
    • Proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices and procedures safeguard workers from hazardous energy releases.
    • Working at Heights Training - Worksite Safety
    • First and CPR  
    • Health and Safety Academy certificate of participation
    • Environmental Health and Safety certificate of appreciation
    • EMS Safety CPR
    • Fundamentals of Health and Safety in the Workplace
    • Introduction to Safety, Risks and Hazards.

 

Required Experience:

  • At least 1 to 5 years of work experience in industrial safety, construction procedures field.
  • Contractor management.
