The General Manager (Sports and Entertainment) is responsible for managing the organisation's overall operations and strategic direction. The ideal candidate will drive growth, financial performance, and brand recognition through comprehensive leadership across multiple business functions.

Position Title: General Manager (Sports and Entertainment) 

 

Job Summary: 

The General Manager will oversee a sports and entertainment organisation's daily operations, strategic planning, and business development initiatives. This role involves leading cross-functional teams, enhancing profitability, and elevating the brand's presence in the industry.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the effective operation of the organisation.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to drive growth, profitability, and brand recognition in the sports and entertainment sectors.
  • Manage the organisation's financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and event management teams to drive audience engagement and ticket sales.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including sponsors, partners, athletes, and community organisations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including safety and risk management protocols.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to build a high-performing team.
  • Analyse market trends and competitor activities to identify new opportunities and challenges.
  • Prepare and present reports on operational performance and strategic priorities to the executive team or board of directors.
  • Lead initiatives to improve customer experience and engagement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within the sports and entertainment industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial management and performance metrics.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams.

  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and operational planning.
  • Familiarity with marketing, sponsorship, and event management practices.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with occasional evening and weekend work required for events and meetings.

  1. Revenue Growth: Measure the percentage increase in total revenue year-over-year.
  2. Operating Margin: Assess the profitability of the organisation by analysing operating income as a percentage of revenue.
  3. Customer Satisfaction Scores: Use surveys and feedback to evaluate the experience of attendees and stakeholders.
  4. Attendance and Engagement Metrics: Track ticket sales, audience attendance, and participation rates in events and programs.
  5. Sponsor Acquisition and Retention Rates: Measure the number of new sponsorship deals secured and the retention rate of existing sponsors.
  6. Employee Engagement and Retention: Evaluate staff satisfaction and turnover rates to gauge the health of the organisational culture.
  7. Market Share Growth: Analyse the organisation's position relative to competitors in the sports and entertainment industry.
  8. Event Success Metrics: Assess the success of events based on attendance, revenue generated, and feedback from participants.
