The General Manager- Retail and Commercial Banking will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, growth, and operational effectiveness of the retail banking, commercial banking and private banking divisions of ANSA Bank Limited.

Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago
Reports to: Managing Director, ANSA Bank Limited

Job Purpose:
The General Manager- Retail and Commercial Banking will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, growth, and operational effectiveness of the retail banking, commercial banking and private banking divisions of ANSA Bank Limited. This senior role will require a dynamic leader who can drive innovation, optimize performance, enhance customer experience, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The incumbent will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to align business objectives, manage teams, and deliver sustainable financial results via significant revenue generation and business development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement the overall strategy for ANSA Bank’s retail, commercial and private banking portfolios, to meet organizational objectives.
    • Analyse market trends and customer needs to identify new opportunities for business development and product innovation.
    • Lead business planning and budgeting processes for retail and commercial as well as private banking operations.
  2. Operational Management:
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Retail and Commercial Banking divisions, along with the Private Banking division, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
    • Optimize operational processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
    • Manage risk effectively, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies.
  3. Customer Relationship Management:
    • Foster strong relationships with key clients and partners in both the retail and commercial banking sectors, as well as high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients to support the private banking portfolio.
    • Ensure a high standard of customer service and satisfaction through the continuous development of customer-centric strategies and initiatives.
    • Lead efforts in customer acquisition and retention, with a focus on expanding the bank’s customer base via exceptional customer experience.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team within the Retail, Commercial and Private Banking divisions.
    • Implement training programs to enhance staff skills and ensure alignment with the bank’s values and strategic objectives.
    • Set performance goals and regularly review team progress to ensure targets are met.
  2. Financial Performance and Reporting:
    • Monitor and report on the financial performance of the Retail, Commercial and Private Banking businesses, ensuring alignment with annual and long-term objectives.
    • Drive profitability through effective cost management, revenue generation, and operational efficiencies.
    • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, ensuring timely and accurate communication of key business metrics and progress.
  3. Risk Management and Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures within the Retail and Commercial Banking divisions.
    • Identify potential risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies to protect the bank’s financial interests.
    • Collaborate with internal audit and compliance teams to maintain a strong governance framework.
  4. Market and Product Development:
    • Spearhead the development and enhancement of banking products and services, ensuring they meet the needs of retail and commercial customers, along with the Bank’s book of private banking clients.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
  5. Collaboration with Senior Leadership:
    • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (ABL & AMBL) to ensure alignment of business strategies and objectives across all departments.
    • Contribute to broader organizational initiatives and represent the Retail and Commercial Banking divisions at executive meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in retail and commercial banking, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of banking regulations, financial management, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proven track record of achieving financial and operational goals.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and drive change in a complex, fast-paced environment.
