Background
Opening in June 2025, Hotel Indigo will be in a prime location on the south coast of Barbados on the site previously occupied by the Caribee Hotel. This four-star Hotel is part of the IHG Group which comprise 19 hotel brands, over 6,000 destinations and one loyalty program. Please see full details of the role and requirements below.
Role Purpose and Scope
The General Manager oversees all aspects of hotel operations, ensuring excellent guest services, staff performance, and financial results. He/She will be responsible for maintaining brand standards, fostering a positive work environment, and implementing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability. The General Manager will be required to work Fridays and Saturdays as well to be on call during critical times and emergencies.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations across all departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with IHG brand standards and local regulations.
- Implement and monitor operational policies and procedures.
- Maintain the highest level of guest satisfaction by addressing feedback promptly and effectively.
- Analyse guest service metrics and implement improvements where necessary.
- Manage Housekeeping and Maintenance functions to ensure compliance with quality and brand standards in all areas of the hotel as it relates to appearance, cleanliness, and levels of maintenance and repair; ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
- Manage the Food and Beverage function to ensure smooth operations whilst controlling costs and maintaining health and safety standards.Have oversight of the restaurant and bar operations.
- Manage the security function ensuring a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, and hotel assets.
- Ensure that accounting and purchasing controls and procedures are implemented and maintained.
- Develop as well as manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
- Oversee pricing and inventory management in collaboration with the sales and revenue teams.
- Maintain a proactive human resources function to ensure positive employee relations, training and development and compliance with policies and procedures along with labour regulations.
- Recruit, train, and mentor staff to build a high-performing team.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams on a regular basis to develop strategies that drive occupancy and revenue.
- Represent the hotel in the local community to enhance the brand’s visibility and reputation.
- Ensure that goals are established and achieved to meet the hotel’s overall financial objectives.
- Interact and communicate with guests to ensure their total satisfaction.
- Regularly liaise with owners regarding operational updates and current issues.
- Communicate with vendors to address and resolve any vendor performance issues, etc.
- Interact with regulatory agencies regarding safety and compliance matters.
- Cultivate and maintain other contacts as needed including but not limited to professional organisations, community groups and local media.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum of five years experience in hotel management with at least two years in a General Manager’s role.
- Must have experience in a three or four-star branded hotel like IHG, Hilton, Marriott etc.
- Must have prior Food and Beverage management experience.
- A proven track record of achieving financial targets and delivering exceptional guest service.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the use of hotel management software and MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of IHG brand standards would be very useful.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail.
