Role Summary
The General Manager - Feed Mill is responsible for the overall management of the feed mill, including production, quality control, inventory management, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the feed industry and be able to lead and motivate a team of employees.
Duties and Responsibilities Summary
- Responsibility for maintaining the plant and equipment.
- Oversee the production of feed products in accordance with quality standards.
- Manage inventory levels and ensure that the mill has sufficient raw materials to meet demand.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers and ensure that the mill receives the best possible pricing along with developing the formulas with the nutritionist.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase sales in local and export markets.
- Manage a team of employees and ensure that they are properly trained and motivated.
- Comply with all applicable regulations.
- Liaising with the various stakeholders to deliver their needs to the highest standards including doing site visits to customers.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in animal science, agriculture, or a related field.
- A mechanical engineering degree or equivalent would be an asset.
- A track record of applied engineering skills.
- 5+ years of experience in the feed industry.
- Strong understanding of feed production and quality control.
- Knowledge and experience with HACCP certification or other quality control systems in the food industry.
- Experience in inventory management and customer service.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Evidence of highly technical skills would be an asset.
