Financial Controller - Insurance Segment

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER – INSURANCE SEGMENT 

The Financial Controller, Insurance Segment is responsible for providing oversight of the Finance Function for the General Insurance companies in the GKFG’s Insurance Segment: 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to comply with legal and regulatory obligations  as well as internal management and Board requirements. 
  • Coordinate the development of the Insurance Segment financial plans by directing the  preparation of high-level budgets and forecasts for the segment. 
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that are consistent and  compliant with International Financial reporting Standards. 
  • Develop and manage the Insurance Segment’s financial control system by ensuring expenses  are authentic; monitoring variance reports and ensuring control procedures are in place for  Reconciliations and Receivables management. 
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on the most appropriate Asset/Liability  Management (ALM) structuring of the Insurance Companies Balance Sheets 
  • Represent the Finance function for the Insurance Segment at Board and Committee  meetings (both internal and external committees) and financial forums; liaise with the  Financial Services Commission and other government agencies on legal and financial issues affecting the Insurance Segment 
  • Contribute to the performance and development of subordinate staff by providing strong  leadership to motivate both individual and team excellence. 
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on the most appropriate Asset/Liability  Management (ALM) structuring of the Insurance Companies Balance Sheets 

Minimum Qualifications, Experience & Competencies 

  • Graduate degree in Finance or Accounting and an Accounting designation (ACCA/CPA)  
  • At least 10 years work experience at a senior level in the insurance industry 
  • Sound technical knowledge of Insurance Companies policies, operations, organization,  accounting procedures and financial reporting systems 
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 17and its application 
  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to coach, mentor and motivate teams 
  • Good time management and the ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines 
  • Advanced knowledge and proven ability in the use of financial software applications
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically 
  • Working knowledge of computing and communications technology applications 
  • Well-developed public speaking and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite [EXCEL, Word, PowerPoint etc.]
