About the Role:

The Financial Controller role, which reports to the Chief Financial Officer will have direct oversight of inventory management and authorized economic operations (AEO).  The role demands a growth-mindset leader who is visible in the operations and impeccable in leading the compliance processes.   The key duties include ensuring that the Company adheres to the regulatory laws and internal policies to mitigate against any potential risk, with a focus on identifying, assessing and managing all areas of the business, including financial, operational and legal.  The core duties include:

  • Managing the Accounts department and finance functions including payables, receivables, banking, and fixed assets and the day-to-day activities, ensuring that reporting deliverables and all statutory obligations are accurately filed and paid on time.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory laws and internal policies – this includes applying accounting principles & procedures to analyze financial information, preparing budgets and accurate and timely financial reports while ensuring appropriate accounting and internal control procedures.
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making 
  • Preparing and executing risk assessment plans for all functions of the business to limit inherent business risk and ensure compliance with policies
  • Leading and directing the Inventory team in an efficient and effective manner ensuring optimum levels of productivity are achieved.
  • Managing inventory tracking system to ensure accuracy, control and accountability 
  • Planning and directing stocktaking activities for all product categories and report findings to CFO and Directors.
  • Managing the implementation of projects to ensure objectives are met and completed on a timely basis
  • Undertaking regular visits to all locations to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Reviewing existing policies and procedures and update or make amendments where required.
  • Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraud and ensure accuracy of financial records
  • Liaising with external auditors to facilitate audits and address findings and recommendations
  • Monitoring the requirements of the AEO (authorized economic operations) and respond appropriately to all reported anomalies relating to AEO; apply appropriate disciplinary action where internal breaches occur
  • Providing guidance and support to departments and employees on data privacy matters to promote a culture of data privacy awareness and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Leading the preparation of audit schedules and ensuring assigned areas are completed for the financial year-end audit.
  • Monitoring team performance, conducting timely performance appraisals and providing training coaching, mentoring and regular feedback to staff, ensuring that they are always up to date on procedures and control requirements.
  • Conducting regular staff meetings and maintaining open communication lines to keep staff informed while building a culture of compliance.
  • Ensuring observance and strict adherence to all safety and housekeeping policies and practices consistent with clean, safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally sound operations.
  • Reviewing and assisting in maintaining the integrity of the company’s software responsible for its accounting, inventory and warehouse systems in order to maintain operational efficiency.

 

About the Person:

The preferred candidate should be an experienced Financial Controller who is also passionate about compliance and maintaining the control environment in a fast-growing retail operation.

The preferred candidate should have the Experience and specialized Knowledge and Skills as listed below:

 

-        Professional accounting qualifications (ACCA, CPA) or related discipline  

-        At least seven (7) years’ professional and management experience in Accounting, internal or external audit at a senior level

-        Experience in the LogisticsFMCG and Retail sectors would be given priority.

-        Experience in project management  

 

Required Competencies:

-        Strong analytical and reporting skills

-        Proficiency in and knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles and practices (audit firm experience would be advantage)

-        Knowledge of and familiarity with inventory software/applications suitable to FMCG or retail operations

-        Good oral and written communication skills – must be able to command attention and manage stakeholder relationships

-        Proficiency in the use of accounting software (SAGE 300 and SAGE Intelligence), Microsoft Office Suite

-        Excellent problem-solving skills and capable of multitasking

-        Highly organized and excellent time management skills

-        Ability to work on own initiative, prioritize work and work under pressure

-        Ability to lead, plan, organise and direct activities

-        Relatable at all levels and able to inspire high performance and a culture of compliance
