Financial Accountant
Job Purpose
To assist with the preparation and review of financial statements and associated reports and analyses which support sound decision-making and adherence to financial reporting, tax and other applicable regulations, while ensuring that the needs of internal and external stakeholders of the Company are adequately met.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Statement Preparation
- Preparation of monthly management accounts in agreed format for review by the Finance Director for circulation to Executive Management by the first/second working day – P&L, B/S, Cash flows, EVC, month end reports
- Preparation of variance analyses providing explanations for both income statement and balance sheet, analytical reviews and reconciliations of income statement and balance sheet accounts for inclusion in monthly reporting to the Executive by the 1st working day
- Detailed review of expenses prior to close-off to enable a quicker turnaround of month-end reports
Assist with Cash and Loans Management
- Responsible for ensuring timely repayments of loans and interest including dividend payments are made by due dates and accurately recorded in the general ledger and intercompany accounts in the relevant month
- Ensures the loan registers are maintained accurately and reconciled to GL, ensuring all loan covenants are adhered to.
- Daily review and approval of online or hard copy bank transfers, cheques and ACH payment in a timely manner.
Assist with the Preparation and Coordination of Audits
- Preparation of periodic Central Bank reports for circulation to relevant authorities
- Oversees Annual Statutory Audits (interim and final) including;
- Preparation of Financial Year End Audit schedules and files
- Provides requested supporting documents as required including bank and loan confirmations for external audit purposes
- Provides explanations of balances, transactions and arrangements
- Liaises with external auditors to ensure timely resolution of all audit-related matters, escalating to the FD as necessary
- Assist with the management of all tax-related audits (VAT or BIR)
- Assists with the preparation of IFRS 9 & 16 compliant Financial Statements with explanatory notes for year-end statutory audits and related reporting
Tax the Preparation and Statutory Compliance
- Preparation of bi-monthly VAT returns and supporting schedules, ensuring VAT accurately calculated and relevant submitted to the revenue and paid on time
- Calculation of quarterly Corporation tax and Green Fund levy remittances and preparation of related payments to statutory bodies by the due date
Supports the Preparation of the Annual Budget
- Assists with relevant analysis and preparation of the annual Operating Budget - P&l, B/S, cash flow, capex, debt schedules and other analysis including for submission by the due date.
Supports the Finance Team daily functions
- Supervise Accounts Payable function, including but not limited to:
- Ensures timely processing of invoices and timely payment of suppliers.
- Ensures Supplier reconciliations are prepared for all major suppliers and queries resolved.
- Posting of monthly Journals and auditing EOD report for proper posting of daily transactions, journals, cash receipts, AP, Inventory etc
- Back up to the Payroll Team lead.
- Reviews of all balance sheet reconciliations to ensure reasonableness, completeness and accuracy of reported values, as well as ensuring adjusting entries are accurately prepared and posted in the general ledger by stipulated due dates monthly or quarterly.
- Reviews all bank reconciliations monthly by the 5th working day of the following month and follow up to ensure that reconciling items are cleared in no more than one month
- Prepares ad-hoc reports and analyses as may be requested from time to time by the FD
- Assists with the development of Accounting policies and procedures for internal and external controls and provision of recommendations for continuous improvement to support the achievement of operating excellence
- Performs other duties that may be required to enhance the operations of the Company
Academic Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Accounting Qualification
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience with integrated Accounting software package(s)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the Distribution Sector
