Facility Custodian/Material Handler – Trainee

The Facility Custodian /Material Handler-Trainee will be responsible for building upkeep and for the maintenance and protection of the company’s facilities.

The Facility Custodian /Material Handler-Trainee will be responsible for building upkeep and for the maintenance and protection of the company’s facilities.  The Facility Custodian /Material Handler-Trainee will also be required to be a Banksmen/Signaller with responsibility for directing the movement of vehicles and plant on or around a site which would be critical to on-site health and safety.   

Key Duties:  

• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
• Ensure thorough cleaning and tidying the premises.
• Sweep and Polish Warehouse Floors periodically.
• Maintain outer premises utilized by Massy Wood Group by cleaning entrances, drains and laydown yard.
• Report major damages.
• Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.).
• Checking pressure washing and cleaning equipment to make sure an adequate water supply is provided and that proper working order.
• Operate pressure washer machinery to clean surfaces.
• Inspect the surface area after the washing to ensure it is clear of dirt and debris.
• Clear the job site and store all hoses and equipment correctly.
• Directing the movement of vehicles on a work site.
• Recommending and laying out safe, on-site traffic systems.
• Providing clear, correct and safe directions to heavy equipment operators.
• Communicating with drivers and heavy equipment operators verbally and by radio and/or industry standard hand signals.
• Understanding risks (e.g. blind spots) and how to manage these effectively.
• Follow adequate hazardous materials management.
• Participate in all HSE initiatives and trainings.
• Promote general order and cleanness of warehouse and optimize the use of available resources.
• Execute every task in a safe manner and identify and correct any unsafe acts.
• Reporting of any out of normal event or non-conformance.
• Adhere to all HSSE policies/procedures and participate in Leading Indicators that will result in a Zero Accidents culture. 
• Attend toolbox meetings.
• Performs all other related job functions as required.
