The incumbent is responsible for conducting maintenance and repair works as well as changeovers and troubleshooting on both plant and equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
o Participate in the execution of both reactive and preventive maintenance (both mechanical and
electrical), as required, to effectively protect the state of the assets assigned by not only keeping
maximum uptime on their functionality but also keeping integrity on the exterior state of the asset
(paint, cleanliness, guarding, etc.)
o Participate in the overhaul program as directed by the Engineering Manager and/or Supervisor.
o Execute all maintenance tasks assigned diligently, on time and accurately.
o Provide information for the preventive maintenance database to reduce to zero reoccurrence of
avoidable machine breakdowns when requested and report any obstacles found to Supervisor.
o Participate in performing all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, lubrication, cleaning and hydraulic
duties on the company equipment to repair and maintain a high standard of operating efficiency.
o Acknowledge any unexpected machine stoppage within 5 minutes when on plant.
o Assist in the installation of new equipment.
o Assist in the analysis, design and fabrication of machinery and related accessories of all equipment.
o Demonstrate and maintain the following: Proper tools, sense of urgency, proper attitude, technical
documentation available, correct spares, knowledge to tackle the problem at hand, follow up with
superiors where knowledge is insufficient.
o Monitoring devices & equipment and immediately report any abnormalities, non-functional or
malfunctioning parts or equipment, as well as steam leaks to the Engineering Supervisor.
o Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities including test results,
instrument readings and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
o Perform equipment changeovers within the stipulated timeframes. Assist with trouble shooting and
line adjustments to ensure the production lines are functional.
o Check/assess machines before scheduled start-up as per the weekly production plan.
o Be aware of the Weekly Production and Engineering schedules;
o Execute corrective work with good quality control of work to ensure no re-work.
o Work to ensure that use and control of spares and time are within expected levels.
o Ensure that tools are not abused leading to early replacement.
o Exercise care in the maintenance of equipment to avoid pre-mature failure and shortened life.
o Notify superiors (in a timely manner) of any tools and/or spare parts required for execution of
repairs.
o Prepare reports of activities as required by the Engineering Supervisor or Manager.
o Demonstrate and maintain good housekeeping in the execution of maintenance activities.
o Demonstrate and maintain tools, spares, and other equipment with such care that they are not left lying in or on machinery, on the factory floor or generally out of place.
o Follow good manufacturing practice in the execution of maintenance activities.
o Conform to and enforce all established departmental and company policies, procedures and
objectives, GMPs, food safety and HSE site protocols. Wear Personal Protective Equipment at all
times.
o Communicates equipment related downtimes and major breakdowns (exceeding 10 mins) to key
stakeholders. Provide details of root cause of these as well as repairs required and timelines to
address.
o Ensure equipment handovers (after PM, changeovers and repairs) are properly handed over (verbal
and email) to the respective stakeholders.
o Be knowledgeable of all maintenance operations, protocols and activities.
o Recommend and /or implement new methods, processes, and improvements where required.
o Immediately report any non-conformances relating to maintenance operations to the Engineering
Supervisor
o Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as required by the Engineering Manager and/or
Supervisor.
o Undergo all job-related training required by the company.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
o Diploma in MEEET, EEET, MET, 2yr Journeyman Certificate or equivalent qualifications.
o First degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering would be an asset;
o At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Maintenance Technician in the manufacturing
industry.
o Physically fit, able to handle heavy loads (ability to safely lift 25kg unassisted)
o Ability to work well in a team;
o Good communication skills, both oral and written.
o Experience with performing repetitive and hands-on tasks;
o Must be flexible to work on different lines, shifts or duties assigned by Supervisor.
o Time management skills and organizational skills
