Position Summary

The Engineer II, Rotating provides engineering advice, system and reliability strategies (primarily rotating equipment) to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of the Methanol production facility. The responsibilities of the incumbent include design calculations, analysis, reviews and recommendations, implementation of best practices and standards, monitoring the condition of plant equipment and recommending strategies to optimize plant reliability and equipment life at the Trinidad site. The condition monitoring activities is not limited to but includes acquisition of vibration spectrum data on rotating equipment, temperature measurements, IR thermography, analysis of data and providing recommendations. This candidate will be required to perform condition monitoring and reliability improvement studies (80% Condition Monitoring/ 20% Reliability Improvement studies).

 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Process Safety Management (PSM) acumen in maintenance activities and risk assessments.
  • Contributes to performance reviews and establishes goals and objectives for direct contract reports.
  • Under the supervision of an Engineer III-IV or Team Lead, sets and maintains standards for selection of Rotating Equipment and the design, installation, repair and maintenance of the equipment and documentation, in accordance with statutory, company, certification agency and insurers requirements.
  • Develops and maintains maintenance systems, best practices and plans to ensure rotating equipment operates with optimal efficiency and reliability.
  • Assists with conducting root cause failure analysis for all failures and identifies the system modifications, upgrades, or changes required to prevent recurrence.
  • Identifies and implements engineered solutions, and opportunities to improve rotating equipment efficiency and performance.
  • Maintains an overview of the current and future technology trends and makes recommendations to incorporate these into rotating equipment systems, strategies, system enhancements or replacements which are financially justifiable.
  • Identifies system training requirements for Maintenance Technicians and system users to carry out all required front line maintenance duties and input these into the Maintenance training plan.
  • Develops engineering briefs, and provides technical advice and assistance as required to the Technical Team to allow the development of detailed engineering scopes of work and designs.
  • Assists supervisors in the design, modification, operation, security and reliability of rotating equipment to operate Methanex production facilities and performs quality assurance on maintenance repairs of major equipment.
  • Develops procedures for specialised tests and calibrations.
  • Acquires equipment data, performs design calculations, conducts analysis and engineering reviews and makes recommendations that will result in longer-term improvements in the operation of plant and equipment.
  • Works with the Maintenance Department rotating equipment specialists, and technicians to ensure their diagnostic and monitoring systems are functioning as per requirements.
  • Assists in coordinating with the Statutory Inspection Body regarding rotating equipment pressure envelope inspection and compliance.
  • Analyses performance issues of major plant equipment and recommends solutions.
  • Develops and maintains maintenance systems, best practices and plans to ensure rotating equipment operates with optimal efficiency and reliability.
  • Identifies and implements engineered solutions, and opportunities to improve rotating equipment efficiency and performance.
  • Maintains an overview of the current and future technology trends and makes recommendations to incorporate these into rotating equipment systems, strategies, system enhancements or replacements which are financially justifiable.
  • Under supervision of the respective Team Lead, provides input into strategic plans which addresses the economic life cycle of equipment.
  • Works together with the Materials Team (specifying and evaluating technical information) for purchasing of rotating equipment. 
  • Utilizes RCM programs on critical and major equipment.
  • Tracks and maintains database on reliability issues and corrective actions implementation.
  • Ensures legislation in area of expertise is complied with and proposed changes/updates communicated, as defined in the Statutory Authorities codes.
  • Supports role for investigation of plant upsets and equipment failure, suggests reliability improvements.
  • Identifies turnaround work activities.
  • Assists the respective Team Lead in working with Operations and provides correct operating parameters.
  • Supports all site engineering requirements including all aspects of reliability engineering. Works with key suppliers to influence the improvement of reliability of their supply.
  • Acquires and analyses condition monitoring data using vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasound, infrared thermography, motor current analysis or other appropriate techniques with the approval if the resepctive Team Lead.
  • Prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations and reports for defining rotating equipment reliability problems and opportunities and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Under supervison of Team Lead, assists in conducting analysis using detailed calculations of rotating equipment problems and investigates to determine the reliability required considering the cost limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs and availability of materials/equipment.
  • Develops repair procedures in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Performs QA/QC for maintenance execution activities to ensure rework is minimized.
  • Utilizes reliability tools and techniques to ensure targeted use of resources deployment for management of risk.
  • Performs root cause analysis and problem-solving investigations to ensure repeat failures are eliminated.
  • Makes recommendations for the optimization and improvement to equipment PM and CM programs.
  • Utilizes wrench time studies to make suggestions for productivity improvement within the team. 

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Certification in API Source Inspector, Vibration Analysis Cat 1, System 1

Experience

  • Four to six (4-6) years’ experience with two (2) years in an operating plant environment.
