Computer Science Major
Programme Overview
The computer science major is a three year programme based on ACM/IEEE recommendations. It prepares students for the rapidly changing world of computing by giving them the skills and knowledge to readily adapt to these changes. Therefore our programme exposes students to both theoretical and practical aspects of computing, to equip them to solve real problems.
Programme Structure
Computer science majors are required to complete 15 level one credits in computing, along with 22 credits from level two and 14 from level 3.They can choose from elective courses in or outside of the department, provided that the other faculty requirements are met.
Our flexible schedule of day and evening classes allows students to pursue studies part time or full time.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should possess 5 CXC or GCE O’level subjects (grades 1-3/A-C, including English Language and mathematics) or their equivalent. The faculty of Science and Technology requires that applicants have two (2) advanced level GCE or CAPE subjects (2 units each at grades 1-5), to qualify for the full time 3 year degree programme. One of these advanced level subjects should be a science subject. A teachers’ college diploma, an associate’s degree in mathematics, information technology or science or a pass in EC1003 (Mathematics for the Social Sciences) will be considered equivalent qualification for persons without CAPE passes.
Application Process
Application forms can be obtained and submitted electronically at http://sas.uwimona.edu.jm:9010.
