Economist II

  

Department:              S&T Statistics, Level 13, Ministry of Education Tower A

Reports to:                 Senior Economist

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans and devises methods of compiling economic data, and organizes and interprets such data to aid in formulating government’s economic policy.
  2. Conducts research on various aspects of economics such as international trade agreements, tax tariffs and price structure, wage and income policy and prepares reports on same.
  3. Makes recommendations on economic aspects of application for the release of foreign exchange, and reviews application for approved investment status; also interviews potential investors on investment possibilities and incentives.
  4. Interprets effects of Government regulations and restrictions on industrial, tax, labour and other policies.
  5. Represents the Ministry or Department on various committees and working parties.
  6. Supervises the activities of professional and technical personnel engaged in relevant area of economics.
  7. Performs related work as may be required.

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Considerable experience in the field of economics such as may have been gained in the next lower class and training as evidenced by a degree in Economics from a recognized University; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of economics.
  • Considerable knowledge of research techniques including sampling and other statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of applied economics and of current developments in economic, industrial and fiscal matters.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate problems objectively and to recommend appropriate action.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to prepare comprehensive reports on economic matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders, associates, other employees and the public.
