The Director of Operations as the head of the Operations Department at National Helicopter Services Limited (NHSL) is responsible for ensuring that members of the operations team and aircraft fleet operate safely, legally and efficiently whilst executing the daily flight programme.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
The Director of Operations (DOO) reporting to the General Manager is the lead position under the Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) and is responsible for managing the full range of NHSL’s operations function ensuring safe and efficient service delivery to our clients whilst adhering to Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Regulations (TTCAR’s), industry and organisation requirements. The DOO leads, coaches, mentors and develops the staff of the Operations Department.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Director of Maintenance (DOM) to ensure maintenance and flight operations are coordinated fully, efficiently and safely in executing the daily flight programme.
- Determines and maintains the core manpower levels, skill sets and competencies required among the flight and ground crew to support effective departmental performance.
- Identifies, evaluates and resolves issues regarding department inefficiency/ineffectiveness, recommend and implement action steps to support improvement within the function.
- Ensures the overall management of the department, its policies, procedures, systems and practices are relevant to support and maintain a culture of high performance and continuous improvement whilst adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Performs line check duties when required and able to fly the line at least 25% of the monthly pilot roster.
- Performs other duties related to the job function.
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- A valid Trinidad and Tobago ATPL with IR and AW-139 type rating or acceptable equivalent.
- At least five (5) years flight operations managerial or command experience.
- A minimum of 6000 flight hours, with at least 1500 offshore and PIC experience on a medium twin.
- Strong Leadership, Interpersonal, Communication, and Business Savvy Skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Civil Aviation Regulations and practices.
- Tertiary Level Education or Post Graduate qualification in Aviation will be an asset.
- Proven ability to motivate staff and manage a diverse team on time sensitive projects.
- Possess a high degree of integrity, tact, diplomacy and corporate spirit.
