JOB TITLE: Director of Operations
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the overall safety, direction and supervision of the Aerodrome operations and the development of policies and procedures. Directs and coordinates the efficient operation of the airports including monitoring and setting of service standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPI), in accordance with directions from the Board of the BVI Airports Authority and the set standards as per the Aerodrome Manual.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains current updates and finalizes pending drafts (if any) on all Aerodrome manuals including a Sea Aerodrome Manual for the Virgin Gorda Sea Aerodrome.
2. Produces the required aerodrome and associated manuals for Virgin Gorda and Anegada Airports. 3. Provides direction, training and leadership for all operations staff and for ensuring that the Aerodrome Regulations and associated Health and Safety legislations are met wherever possible.
4. Consults with regulatory and statutory bodies to ensure that the airports are operated and maintained in accordance with regulations and compliance standards.
5. Promotes and maintains relationships with control authorities and third parties to guarantee the effective integration of their activities with all other airport services.
6. Works jointly with airline operators and ground handling companies and other service providers to establish performance standards and processes and agree to corrective measures and procedures.
7. Keeps abreast of all technical and operational developments in the air transport industry and advising the Managing Director of their significance.
8. Develops a safety culture into the organization through the development and implementation of a Bird Control Management Plan and a Safety Management System for all aerodromes in the Territory.
9. Oversees and coordinates the bi-annual Airport Emergency Drill.
10. Maintains an effective health and safety program; Airside Safety and Driving Code policy.
11. Reviews and updates workplace safety rules; and makes recommendations to improve health and safety conditions within BVI Airports Authority.
12. Reviews and updates workplace safety rules based on accidents investigation findings; any inspection and employee reports of unsafe conditions or work practices; and address relevant anonymous complaints and suggestions from employees.
13. Communicates procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of control measures used to protect employees from safety and health hazards in the workplace.
14. Evaluates employee injury and accident records; identifies trends and patterns in occurrences; establishes corrective measures to prevent recurrence; and update the workplace safety program.
15. Evaluates employee accident and illness prevention programs and promotes safety and health awareness to ensure continuous improvement through employee participation in the workplace.
16. Assists management with effective implementation, enforcement and documentation of workplace safety education and training.
17. Controls and maintains all employee accident and injury records. 18. Performs all other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
