JOB TITLE: Diagnostic Radiographer
SALARY SCALE: Z16-8 (Q.B) Z7-6 ($48,782.10 - $61,644.69 Q.B $63,297.84 - $65,621.50) Barbados Dollars
DEPARTMENT: Radiology and Medical Imaging
REPORTS TO: Senior Radiographer
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision assists in the provision of high quality and effective diagnostic imaging services, whilst assuring the optimum quality of care for patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.
- Undertakes Radiographic and Imaging examinations as required;
- Caries out best practice standards in the provision of Medical Imaging Services;
- Takes part in routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures, reporting of deficiencies or malfunction;
- Keeps up-to-date with Medical Imaging Services best practice standards;
- Endeavors to achieve a high standard of image quality by following exposure charts accurately;
- Checks images thoroughly and follows assessment guidelines;
- Seeks advice from more senior staff when necessary;
- Takes responsibility for maintaining a clean, tidy and safe work area;
- Utilizes flexible approach to work so that urgent cases can be facilitated as necessary;
- Ensures the policies and procedures of the QEH are applied and adhered to;
- Supervises and trains staff and student radiographers;
- Ensures effective and economic use of resources and reports all occurrences of defects which may affect health and safety;
- Liaises and communicates with all other staff in a courteous and helpful manner at all times;
- Takes responsibility for his/her own professional development in the role, in accordance with Continual Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
- Develops evidence based competency skills and knowledge by assisting senior members of staff in a range of modalities within the department;
- Takes an active part in departmental quality initiatives, quality assurance programmes and audit and research projects;
- Participates in flexible working arrangements to include working on evenings/weekends and Bank holidays/shift Rotas/on call duty/ out of hours working, subject to the needs of the department;
- Ensures that complaints and incidents are dealt with appropriately and reported to a senior member of staff in accordance with departmental policies;
- Liaises closely with a range of staff, who may include medical staff, consultants, registrars, trainee doctors, nurses, medical physicists, engineers, and a range of other allied health professionals such as dieticians, physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists;
- Observes health and safety protocols in the execution of duties;
- Using customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials and members of the general public.
- Performs any other related duty as assigned.

- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose human injuries, diseases, and deformities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Diploma of the College of Radiographers or any other approved qualification in Radiography and Radiotherapy.
Automatic advancement beyond the Qualification Bar is permitted on the acquisition of a higher diploma in Radiography or the Teachers Diploma of the College of Radiographers.
