Our Client, the Family Planning Association of Trinidad & Tobago (FPATT), is seeking to fill the position of Deputy Executive Director. This is a permanent position based in Port of Spain.

ABOUT FPATT

FPATT is an NGO whose primary focus is the promoting and ensuring of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all persons in Trinidad and Tobago; through the ongoing development, dissemination, use of research and best practices; advocating, educating, and facilitating, the systems and laws, to allow every person living in T&T, including the most vulnerable, to acknowledge and enjoy the right to the healthy expression of their sexuality, freedom of choice; and the improvement of clinical outcomes for patients with medical issues of the reproductive system, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

  

JOB SUMMARY

The Deputy Executive Director will support the efforts of the Executive Director in the areas of “Resource Mobilisation and Strategic Partnerships”. S/He will share responsibility for identifying, establishing and maintaining FPATT’s strategic relationships; marketing and promoting its services; acting as FPATT’s liaison when delegated, coordinating information collection, and preparing updated reports; S/He will be responsible for sourcing contracts and maintaining several reliable sources for mobilising technical, lobby and advocacy support; funding and donations.

The Deputy Executive Director reports to the Executive Director and drives FPATT’s adaptation strategy. S/He identifies opportunities for maintaining, expanding and creating new strategic relationships to support the vision and Mission of FPATT. S/He also works through matrix reporting relationships to monitor the performance of the contractual and reporting obligations of the donors/sponsors.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies funding sources and develops appropriate proposals for subventions, grants, or other resources; submits timely reports and supports the Executive Director in negotiations with sponsors and donors to acquire technical, financial and other resources to support/sustain FPATT’s workplans.
  • Clearly communicates FPATT’s obligations, to its sponsors and donors, to the Executive Leadership Team and staff; collaborates with his/her colleagues to develop appropriate strategies for its delivery; and design and implement appropriate instruments for the monitoring and evaluation, collection and collation of data and information to ensure FPATT satisfies its reporting obligations.
  • Prepares and submits, for the Executive Director’s approval, timely and accurate reports and other sources of information for the on-time submission to FPATT’s sponsors and donors to satisfy its obligations.
  • Provides advice to the Executive Director, strategic guidance to the entire organisation and on various occasions be called upon to act as or represent the Executive Director, when appointed, on committees and working groups to seek its interest and raise issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Oversees the recruitment of volunteers and creates strategic relationships with groups, and communities to advocate/lobby for changes to laws, policies and behaviours to facilitate
  • Creates and manages strategic relationships with state-owned public-sector entities, NGOs and private sector organisations to establish systems for risk sharing and collaboration.
  • Develops and executes communication plans and strategies to manage all internal and external communications between FPATT, its shareholders and other stakeholders.
  • Creates and maintains a zero-tolerance safety and environmental culture to make the prevention of accidents, incidents and the preservation of life, limbs and the environment paramount for all employees.
  • Sets clear goals, evaluates the performance of his/her direct reports and takes appropriate actions so that the goals and consequently the mission of the Association are achieved in alignment with the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
  • Acts as Officer in Charge in the absence of the Executive Director.

  

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • University level or professional qualification preferably in a Social Sciences field with emphasis on Social Work
  • At least eight (8) years of relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at middle management level.
  • Previous experience working in the NGO sector or in an environment like that of the Association would be an asset. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experiences and a track record of strong organisational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation, delivering superior results, ability to command respect, and assuming leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to work with efficiency and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential. 
  • Ability to convey a vision of the Association’s strategic vision to staff, volunteers, and donors.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organisational settings.  Remains focused under pressure, delivers against timelines, and not intimidated by tasks/time limitations.
