JOB SUMMARY:  

The incumbent in this position responds, organizes, plans, directs and manages public and environmental health programs that are specific to Turks and Caicos Islands; Ensures that everyone in the department is following the Public and Environmental Health Ordinance and regulations; Provides support to the CEHO; Ensures that Public and Environmental Health and Sanitation Standards are adhered to in all areas, both public and private.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enforcement of Public and Environmental Health regulations and sanitation standards concerned with the residential and work environment, food-handling and hygiene, solid and liquid waste management and port health for the geographic areas allocated.
  2. Ensures that water quality standards are maintained in both public and private supplies for the geographic areas allocated
  3. Ensures and supervises the management of pests of public health significance  for the geographic areas allocated
  4. Collaborates with other health professionals in epidemiological investigation and control for the geographic areas allocated
  5. Ensures Occupational and Institutional hygiene and health for the geographic areas allocated
  6. Plans, develops and executes Public and Environmental Health programs for the geographic areas allocated
  7. Coordinates and manages public and environmental health matters in local disaster management for the geographic areas allocated
  8. Ensures that public and environmental health concerns are considered in all matters of building and physical development for the geographic areas allocated
  9. Any other environmental/public health duties for the geographic areas allocated
  10. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations

 

  1. Any other related task which may be assigned by the job holder’s Head of Department.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in environmental health/public health/related field or equivalent

 

  • An average of five (5) to eight (8) years of experience or training in the administration of public health programs and services is preferred. This post will also need to have supervisory experience of three (3) years in a health setting, including dealing with various challenges and problem solving within the environmental & public health field.

 

Desirable:

  •  A Master's degree in environmental health/public health/related field or equivalent.

 

SALARY: Grade 8.1 - $53,193.40 per annum plus allowances
