JOB TITLE:                            Dental Hygienist

LOCATION:                           This position is in Providenciales within the Turks and Caicos Islands. At the discretion of the Public Service, the position may be relocated to another part of TCI.

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The job holder is an essential part of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government Dental

Department. Job holder will be working as part of a team of clinicians providing Dental care.

They will perform a range of prescribed, preventative procedures (eg. Sealants, and

prophylaxis) as well as providing services to the schools and community via a mobile dental unit

and to the sister island through satellite clinics.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1.  Collecting detailed dental and medical histories form patients and providing basic

preventative and restorative treatment such as prophylaxis (Cleaning), sealants to both

adults and children.

2. Use of communication and interpersonal skills to ensure that consent has been obtained

and that the patient has full understanding of treatment options.

3. Refer patients to the dentist as treatment determines.

4. Provide information and practical advice as appropriate for oral health needs of individuals

to enable them to improve and maintain good oral health.

5. Assess, monitor and adapt clinical needs required to meet needs and capabilities of

individual patients.

6. Raise awareness of patient’s own responsibility regarding treatment outcome and longterm benefits.

7. Treat patient groups including children and adults and those with severe gum disease.

8. Providing dental health and education to schools on a regular basis.

9. Regular dental visits to the sister islands to provide dental services.

10. Provide annual reports on periodontal index on the various islands.

11. Taking radiographs to measure pockets depths and enable complete diagnosis to patients.

12. Assist the dentist in the absence of the dental assistant.

13. The jobholder is required to perform their job with integrity and respect for their patients.

14. They must have strong organizational skills and be able to work without direct supervision.

15. The jobholder must be able to handle rapidly changing and stressful situations with ease.

16. Any other duty assigned as deemed appropriate and consistent with the area and level of

training and as directed by immediate supervisor and other superiors.

17. Adhere to all Public Service rules and regulations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Qualifications:

  • The jobholder must have at least a diploma in Dental Hygiene or higher qualification.
  •  

Experience:

At least one (1) year of relevant working experience.

 

Compensation:

 

Grade 6.1 -$34,751.60 per annum
