The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, supporting and optimizing database management systems; developing, modifying, maintaining, and supporting application systems with a focus on service improvement and optimization.

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining,  supporting and optimizing database management systems; developing, modifying, maintaining, and supporting application systems with a focus on service improvement and optimization. Identify and analyze user requirements and recommend appropriate applications or modifications to support the functionality required. Ensure that all application and database systems SuperPharm locations are kept fully operational at all times through performance monitoring and alerting, performing regular maintenance and resolving processing and programming problems to meet business and customer demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform analytic studies of existing applications and database management systems and reporting on their ability to meet company needs.
  • Design and develop new applications and database management systems for organizational use.
  • Ensure that all applications and database management systems are backed up and upgraded as part of preventative maintenance and disaster recovery processes.
  • Report and create documentation for applications.
  • Work with other developers and software providers to ensure organizational needs for software are met.
  • Investigate user problems and needs, identify their source, and determine possible solutions.
  • Analyze user project proposals to include identifying potential problem areas and recommend optimum approaches for project path.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, installation, and testing of applications software.
  • Contribute through code/algorithm development and other means, for the development of tools and interfaces between application programs and for the development of debugging programs.
  • Participate in the development of training materials and assist in conducting training and workshops in parallel processing and use of core business applications.
  • Investigate, recommend and install new applications.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.
  • Document programming problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Support and maintain the various enterprise applications and databases.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for various applications and databases.
  • Support Finance in billing/invoicing/revenue assurance operations.
  • Evaluate and implement new application and database management systems, policies and procedures.
  • Schedule, communicate and execute maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to the company’s and department’s KPIs.
  • Attend training courses or seminars and disseminate information to other team members.
  • Provide internal support to other members of staff where necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings and team building events.
  • Deliver training to end users regarding hardware and software.
  • Modify the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers verbally.
  • Enroll users and maintaining system security.
  • Ensure compliance with database vendor license agreement.
  • Control and monitoring user access to the database.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of the database.
  • Plan for backup and recovery of database information.
  • Maintain archived data.
  • Backup and restore databases.
  • Contact database vendor for technical support.
  • Generate various reports by querying from database as per need.
  • Consult with primary stakeholders, users and senior management to conduct user needs analysis and develop database management systems solutions. Supports staff and management users.
  • Determine hardware, software and staff time required to implement database solutions.
  • Analyze requested database changes for systems impact.
  • Design, develop, install, implement and integrate relational databases including user interfaces.
  • Create and implement programming scripts and procedures to maintain consistent and accurate data during transfer, storage and retrieval.
  • Prepare and convert electronic data from original formats into system- compatible formats.
  • Create technical and non- technical documentation.
  • Monitor database system availability and overall functionality and optimizes database performance.
  • Install, implement, test and maintain relational database software including patches, updates and upgrades and related hardware.
  • Establish and coordinate database user access and privileges. Implements data security protocols. Implements and maintains database backup and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Participate as a team member on database design and development projects.
  • Provide support on an on-call basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology.
  • Minimum of (3) years of experience in a similar role.
  • Microsoft Certifications in Database Administration, Database Analytics and Database Development.
  • Microsoft Certifications in Dynamics, Data Science and Data Analysis. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of operating systems, local area networks, wide area networks, network security, personal computers, and office productivity tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft enterprise applications such as MS Dynamics 365 and CRM would be an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of database design and concepts as well as SQL programming.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft and MySQL databases.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of company supported applications and systems.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret end user information requirements, and to develop or provisions appropriate systems and/or application solutions.
  • Working knowledge of computer/computational science, data analysis, database management systems and programming technologies, concepts, and techniques.
  • Ability to install, develop, test, implement, and troubleshoot complex application software and database systems.
  • Ability to record, track, correspond, and document resolution of user problems by means of problem reporting database software.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation for training, software/hardware use, user procedures, and as required project deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and support new applications and systems. 

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in the retail industry will be an asset.
  • Ability to continuously move around on a daily basis, as well as the ability to lift a minimum of 20lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate the team to ensure a high level of quality control.
