Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Infrastructure & Technical Services team in the capacity of:
Database Administrator
Coordinate and execute database administration (DBA) functions for all database platforms for the production environment, the offsite high availability (Disaster Recovery) environment as well as for a significant array of replica development and test environments.
Provide specialized database administration support for mission critical systems.
Conduct assessments, proactive monitoring and participate in the implementation of all database environments and upgrades.
Location: Kingston
As a Database Administrator, you will:
- Perform routine system checks and proactively monitor the database systems to ensure optimal operations.
- Collaborate with the cloud provider to ensure full compliance is implemented and enforced, including encryption and database access controls.
- Periodically review/ update database auditing logs/ log configuration to ensure the security and integrity of the data.
- Plan and execute data migrations from on-premises databases to cloud platforms or between different cloud services.
- Participate in ongoing planning, designing, installing and implementation of all database production, user acceptance testing and development environments.
- Coordinate with the cloud provider to ensure timely upgrades are done with minimum or no downtime after full testing cycle has been completed.
- Review backup logs done by the cloud provider and perform restoration of User Acceptance Testing and Development database environments.
- Collaborate with the cloud provider to create a robust disaster recovery strategy ensuring that geo-replicated backups and geo-redundant database system clusters are configured as needed.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure that databases are integrated seamlessly into the development and deployment processes.
- Responsible for the troubleshooting and problem solving of all User Acceptance Testing /development environments.
- Responsible for ensuring proper source control and patch management maintenance for all production databases.
- Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timelines and costs.
- Assist with various project implementation and UAT processes.
- Execute all database related tasks within the associated timelines as per the agreed SLA.
- Provides support for all 24/7 systems as per the Tier Support document.
- Maintain regulatory compliance in daily activities by strictly adhering to data privacy regulations/acts and relevant cybersecurity policies, and defined standards, guidelines, and procedures to avoid non-compliance and associated risks.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
- At least five (5) years’ working experience in a similar position.
- Certified in at least one of the following: Microsoft SQL or PostgreSQL Database Administration.
- Certified in at least one of the following: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Database Engineer.
- Training in at least one of the following: Microsoft SQL, MySQL and Postgres Database Administration.
- Training in Windows or AIX/Linux Red Hat Administration.
- Proficiency in MS-SQL 2014 to MS-SQL 2022 database architecture.
- Proficiency in MySQL V5 to V9 and PostgreSQL V13 to V17 database architecture.
- Experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining databases on Azure, AWS or any other Cloud provider.
- Experience in PowerShell, Bash shell and PL/SQL scripting.
- Experience with implementing industry standard database security practices, including encryption, access control, and auditing.
- Experience in structured reviews, software testing and testing tools.
- Exposure to Agile System Development Life Cycle methodologies.
- Experience in application systems integration of average complexity.
- Demonstrated ability for balancing project assignments together with ongoing problem resolution/ change requests.
- Exposure to networks, databases, operating systems, hardware and other IT environmental components for mainframe, midrange and PC based systems.
- High proficiency in the use of computer software packages such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and Internet applications.
- Strong analytical/ critical thinking skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- A results-oriented team player.
