The Data Scientist collects, analyses and interprets large datasets to develop predictive models and communicates findings to internal and external stakeholders and strategic partners.

Job Overview
The Data Scientist collects, analyses and interprets large datasets to develop predictive models and communicates findings to internal and external stakeholders and strategic partners. Therefore, the Data Scientist will help the SCHSBM to make informed decisions related to both internal and external projects and drive innovation through the power of data.
The Data Scientist will be responsible for overseeing the collection, storage and interpretation of data for projects and applied research. This would include sifting through data points to create organized categories, comparing data points through baseline studies and writing reports and preparing presentations outlining business predictions or outcomes.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Collects relevant data on the industry and the market and collaborates with other teams to utilise the data to make evidence-based recommendations.
• Leading the charge on industry/ applied research proposals to identify new opportunities.
• Encouraging new and existing clients by creating and improving proposals.
• Assists with meeting annual targets related to revenue generated from consultant services and/or applied research projects.
• Ensures the availability, quality and security of data used for analysis and modeling.
• Uses data modelling, optimisation and other statistical techniques to identify ways in which an organisation can operate more effectively.
• Leads the creation and development of digital solutions with the use of Big Data.
• Investigates and interprets data to identify actionable insights and opportunities for improvement.
• Designs, implements and refines machine learning models and algorithms.
• Works with cross-functional teams in the SCHSBM to implement data-driven solutions and drive business growth.
• Utilises AI, advanced analytics tools and techniques to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.
• Leads the development of a data-focused ecosystem with conditions to encourage a culture of data-driven understanding and decision making, innovations for data management applications and value creation in the SCHSBM.
• Engages the SCHSBM’s leadership team in support of data initiatives at the enterprise level.
• Leads innovation and change activities by fully leveraging the data asset of the organisation.
• Partners with business users to identify areas of process improvements and recommends solutions through automation.
• Presents findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
• Gather data from primary and secondary sources, ensuring upkeep of databases and data systems.
• Detect, examine, and decode trends or patterns within intricate datasets.
• Cleanse data and scrutinize computer-generated reports and outputs to identify and rectify coding errors.
• Identify opportunities for process enhancements.
• Assist with the development of data dashboards, charts, and visual aids to support decision-making for consultancies and applied research projects.
• Employ statistical techniques to scrutinize data and produce actionable business insights.
• Engage with managers from various departments to specify data requirements for analysis projects tailored to their unique business processes.
• Query databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc.
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques and develop processes and tools to monitor and analyse model performance and data accuracy.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including high standards of written communication, grammar and spelling.
• A confident individual with proven good communication skills across internal and external stakeholders.

• Possess a solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical software (such as Excel, SPSS, SAS) and mastery in data analysis languages including SQL, Python and R.

• The ability to create interactive dashboards and detailed reports is important for presenting data insights in a clear and accessible manner to stakeholders.
• The ability to influence and deliver through others.
• Excellent business awareness and commercial acumen.
• Data cleaning and preparation.
• Confidence working with complex data and systems.
• An understanding of how IT can be used to resolve problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people at all levels of an organisation.
• Proficiency in developing, implementing and managing AI solutions.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python or R, SQL, JavaScript and Jira (or similar tool)
• Time management and organisational skills.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Strong strategic thought leadership and problem-solving skills with ability to tackle unstructured and complex business problems.
• Strong background in computer science and experience working with database queries, writing stored procedures and analysing various reporting tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Ability to interpret technical procedures, contracts and regulations.
• Knowledge and understanding of electronic data collection and data management systems and procedures.

Experience
• At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Experience with Agile methodology.
• Experience of developing new business opportunities through enterprise, commercial and/or knowledge exchanges.
• Experience in building sustainable relationships with external groups, clients and companies and the ability to up-sell opportunities.
• Experience on a variety of simple to complex projects.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques, such a Tableau or Power BI, helps present data findings visually to enhance understanding and decision-making.
• Handling Big Data, Segmentation, Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics and Hypothesis Testing

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in AI, computer science, data analytics, management information systems, data science, business analytics or equivalent work experience.
• Data science certificates are desired.
