The Data Centre Specialist is responsible for research, design, engineering, and implementation of all TSTT's Data Centre(s) IT Environments and Virtual Infrastructure throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

This function is required to ensure the 99.998% availability of TSTT's Data Centres and Virtual Infrastructure in alignment with the TIA -942A certification and Data Centre Services customer Service Level Agreements (SLA's).

The Data Centre Specialist conducts research, develop, implement and maintain Data Centres cloud-related products & services for corporate customers based on their demands and aligned to TSTT's goal of "entrenchment" with these customers. These services may include Saas {Software as a Service, laaS {Infrastructure as a Service} Baas {Backups as a Service} and managed private clouds.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Design, develop and manage the Data Centre, IT Infrastructure and virtual environments (Cloud); includes process flow in the Data Centre using the ITIL standard for production control and change management.
  • Design, develop and manage the Data Centre processes, activities, security and operational controls to ensure that they meet the industry's best practice standards.
  • Support and is consulted on the Company's "business to business" impetus in ICT services, inclusive of managed services, Data Centre services and applications.
  • Provide Consulting and support with a team to deliver the expansion of TSTT's current product portfolio to include Infrastructure as a service (laaS), Platform as a service (PaaS), and Software as a service (SaaS).
  • Develop an appropriate system to manage the data centre IT and virtual environments; to monitor, prevent, and respond to critical incidences in data centre operations; Responsible for the enforcement of security policies across the Department.
  • Manage relevant vendor relationships for data centre suppliers; Completes various reports inclusive of root cause analyses.
  • Perform Capacity Management functions (resource re-allocation to pool, firewalls, etc.), incident and Problem management functions.
  • Ensure all work is done in accordance with established safety practices and procedures.

 

EDUCATION:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another discipline within Science or Engineering, which includes Computer Technical, Programming and/or Information Management courses.
  • Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) - TIA Certified Data Centre Professional

 

EXPERIENCE/ TRAINING:

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in implementing and supporting IT systems and network administration; four (4) years of which involved the design, deployment and administration of IT infrastructure.
  • Experience of this nature directly in the field of servers, storage, networking, databases, operating systems and cloud infrastructure would be a definite asset.

 

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • IT Infrastructure and development (Windows servers, SAN storage, networking, security, backup, virtual computing, etc.)
  • Cloud computing, application migration and portfolio management.
  • Capacity planning, forecasting, disaster recovery planning and implementation and business continuity
