POSITION TITLE:   Country Manager - Pier 17 Trinidad Limited

POSITION REPORTS TO:     General Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:  Customer Service Representatives (5 persons)

OTHER REPORTING LINES: Panama Office

Job Summary: The Country Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the company's operations within the country, ensuring profitability, efficiency, and alignment with corporate goals. This role requires strategic leadership, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of the maritime and logistics industry.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the country’s strategic plans aligned with the company's vision and objectives.
  • Identify market opportunities and expand the company’s presence within the region.
  • Represent the company in industry forums, client meetings, and networking events to build strong relationships with stakeholders and foreign travel maybe required.

Operations Management:

  • Oversee all maritime and land consolidation operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to optimize processes and achieve operational excellence.
  • Monitor cargo handling, warehousing, and distribution activities to meet service standards.
  • Minimize operational costs, with a strong emphasis on reducing rent and demurrage payments to near zero.

Financial Performance:

  • Manage the country’s budget, ensuring profitability and cost efficiency.
  • Analyze financial reports to assess performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Drive revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure compliance with accounting procedures.
  • Collaborate with relevant parties to resolve any documentation discrepancies or issues.
  • Checking and approval of agent SOA’s to ensure timely and correct remittances are sent.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the country team to ensure high performance and employee/corporate and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish performance metrics via the use of KPI’s, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment in line with company values.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure adherence to local, regional, and international laws and regulations, including customs and trade compliance.
  • Mitigate risks by implementing robust policies and procedures for cargo handling, safety, and security.
  • Address any operational challenges proactively and ensure business continuity.

Administrative Management:

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day office operations, including scheduling, record-keeping, and correspondence.
  •  Maintain office supplies inventory and place orders as necessary.
  • Ensure the management of incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and phone calls.

Communications and Coordination:

  • Serve as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and employees.
  • Facilitate effective communication between different departments and teams within the organization.
  • Coordinate meetings, conferences, and travel arrangements for staff members.
  • Prepare and distribute internal communications, memos, and reports.

 

Reporting:

 

  • Submit weekly reports to the General Manager, detailing operational updates, challenges, and achievements.
  • Schedule and lead monthly operational meetings with the General Manager to review performance and key issues.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reviews to the General Manager, providing insights into revenue, expenses, and overall financial health.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Maritime Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or maritime operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing teams, achieving financial targets, and driving operational improvements.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of maritime and land consolidation processes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients, vendors, and government agencies.
