Job Summary
The Corporate Pharmacist oversees the company’s pharmaceutical operations and ensures that the company operates in compliance with pharmacy laws and regulations. Serving as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, they manage drug registrations to include product dossier reviews, and all matters related to the quality, safety, and efficacy of the pharmaceutical products the company distributes or intends to distribute.
They ensure proper pharmaceutical handling, storage, and disposal while maintaining accurate compliance records. Additionally, the Corporate Pharmacist provides regulatory guidance, supports internal teams with training, and assists in audits and inspections to uphold operational excellence.
Job Duties
Pharmacy Regulation
- Ensure that the company is compliant with all pharmacy laws and regulations
- Stay updated on regulatory requirements and implement necessary changes for compliance.
- Review product dossiers and liaise with respective principals.
- Complete closing reviews of all New Drug Applications
- Communicate with Representatives of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Manufacturers and other agencies to follow up with all registration applications and maintain all current registrations.
- Maintain up-to-date documents and records for the Distribution Pharmacy
- Submit annual Controlled Substances report to the Ministry of Health and Wellness
- Approve new customer accounts as per eligibility criteria.
- Provide Pharmacy-related information to customers or other members of staff as required.
- Manage the proper disposal/destruction of expired/damaged pharmaceuticals under the
guidance of the Ministry of Health
- Prepare and submit quarterly & yearly reports for dangerous drugs to the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
- Assist in developing and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct frequent warehouse inspections to ensure compliance with Pharmacy Council standards and regulations (e.g., optimum temperature range for drug storage, etc.).
Customer Service Support
- Provide Pharmacy-related information to customers.
- Conduct product training with customer service representatives as required.
Communication and Leadership
- Communicate regulatory updates and requirements to relevant stakeholders within the company.
- Represent the company in regulatory inspections and audits, ensuring preparedness and compliance.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to regulatory affairs officers and customer service teams, fostering a culture of compliance and excellence.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in general product knowledge training for the field force and other team members of the company.
- Any other duties that may arise within the scope of work.
Education/Training/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
- Registered Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
- At Least 1-2 years’ experience as a pharmacist.
- Experience in pharmaceutical distribution is an asset.
- Knowledge of the regulatory standards and regulations
- Understanding of quality control measures and adherence to standards such as Good Distribution Practices (GDP) for pharmaceutical distribution, is an asset.
