Clinical Care Coordinator

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the position of Clinic Care Coordinator.  The Clinical Care Coordinator will be responsible for daily operations of the Inpatient and Outpatient Nursing Services The inpatient nursing units consist of Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Neonatal Intensive Care, general Intensive Care, and Behavioral Health. The outpatient nursing units consist of Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, Operating Theatre /PACU & CSSD, and Ambulatory Services (Outpatient Clinics).  The Clinical Care Coordinator is expected to take 24-hr calls, and is a clinical lead in organizational, and national emergencies/disasters. The post holder may deputize in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services when necessary.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

  1. Leadership and Management:

a)       Provide visible and accessible site leadership, creating a climate where individuals understand their roles and responsibilities, and people are empowered to be effective.

b)       Establish and maintain senior management presence and undertake the site management function.

c)       Promotes staff adherence, and compliance to nursing policies.

d)       Manages the performance of Nursing Care Coordinators, Nurse Managers.

e)       Provides a daily report on patient census, and other sentinel events to the Director of Nursing Services.

f)         Deputizes for the Director of Nursing Services in her absence.

  1. Staff and Scheduling:

a)       Schedules supervisory staff ensuring administrative coverage.

b)       Coordinates annual leave of the Nursing Management  the Inpatient, and Outpatient Nursing services

  1. Nursing Personnel Recruitment:

a)       Evaluates trends in recruitment, and the job market to recommend recruitment strategies, and determines the most effective advertising to enhance attraction to specialized positions.

b)       Screens candidates to identify levels of nursing skills, and specialties. Selects and shortlists candidates for interview to fill inpatient, and outpatient service needs.

c)       Facilitates process in providing feedback to prospective, and recommended candidates on application, and recruitment procedures.

d)       Develops initiatives to improve the retention of professional nurses in the service/organization.

e)       Assists nursing management in identifying nurses that are suitable for promotion, and transfers into specialty areas, and other areas of interest and need.

f)         Prepare interview summaries, and business justification forms for recommended candidates for approval by Director of Nursing Services.

g)       Prepare nursing allocation listing monthly on staffing and submit to Director of Nursing Services.

h)       Coordinate panels for interviews. Leads/delegates interviews for candidates, and finalize selection with relevant Nursing Unit Manager.

i)         Collaborate with HR recruitment team on new hire updates, and other documentation relating to new hires.

  1. Clinical Practice

a)       Collaborates with Nurse Educator on orientation of new staff, and ensuring that all staff is competent in equipment.

b)       Collaborates with Nurse Managers, and Nursing Care Coordinators, on devising strategies for monitoring of quality of nursing care on the units.

c)       Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards.

d)       Collaborate with other members of nursing leadership team to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives, and maintain good employee relations.

  1. Communication/Collaboration:

a)      Completes monthly reports on inpatient, and outpatient services, and submits to Director of Nursing Services.

b)      Assists in annual nursing budget preparation, and monitoring expenditures.

c)       Identifies resources need for patient care in collaboration with Nurse Managers and Director of Nursing Services.

d)      Assists in planning and executing general staff meetings

e)    Participates in Infection Control Committee, and Risk/Quality/Patient Safety Committee.

  1. Other Roles:

In addition, the post holder is expected to:

a)       Support through demonstration, the aims, mission, and vision of the Nursing Services Division, and BVIHSA.

b)       Ensure compliance with all BVIHSA Risk Management, and Governance policies.

c)       Undertake appropriate mandatory staff trainings outlined by the HR Department.

d)       Abide by the BVI NMC Code of Professional Practice.

e)       Respect colleagues, and patients, and show commitment to working on the team in alignment with the BVIHSA Core values.

f)         Demonstrate high standards of personal, and professional conduct.

g)       Respect appropriate confidentiality of information, and comply with the requirements of the BVIHSA Code of Conduct, and BVIHSA policies.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Education & Experience

v  Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing, MSN preferred

v  Certificate/ Diploma in Management/Supervision

v  Eight (8) years nursing experience in Clinical Practice, and Management.

 

 

 

 

Licenses and/or registrations

v  Unencumbered BVI  Nursing License and current registration to practice

 

v  Current BLS certification

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

v  Sound knowledge of BVIHSA policies, and procedures.

v  Sound knowledge of the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Services, and the organization.

v  Excellent leadership, organizational and management skills

v  Excellent clinical practice and customer care skills

v  Sound analytical and decision making skills

v  Sound oral and written communication skills

v  Computer literate with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Physical Demands

v  The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual, and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
