VACANCY: CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (TOBAGO)

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Civil Engineering Technician (CET) reports directly to the Manager, Property Maintenance and provides onsite technical supervision and support by monitoring and reporting on day to day construction particularly of a Port and Harbour engineering nature.

 

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the Authority’s projects are completed within time and budget. He/she is required to submit detailed reports in a timely manner to mitigate against any potential challenges/issues that may impact the completion of projects.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Co-ordinates with the Property Management Division to ensure adherence to the Department’s deliverables
  • Participates in meetings as the Authority’s representative and updates superiors as necessary.
  • Represents the Civil Engineers and supervises the work of Contractors at construction sites to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Monitors, inspects and ensures workmanship and practices of Contractors and/or Crews engaged by POSINCO to ensure compliance with required standards
  • Inspects and verifies that all materials delivered to the construction site comply with contractual requirements
  • Witnesses testing and quality control activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements
  • Monitors work schedules to ensure that they may remain ‘on schedule’
  • Prepares and submits detailed progress reports inclusive of any deviations in workmanship, construction activity or schedules together with appropriate recommendations
  • Inspects materials on site to ensure quality prior to purchase.
  • Prepares technical reports, sketches and/or plans to assist the Civil Engineers in the evaluation of projects.
  • Assists in quantity measurement and surveying.
  • Ensures that the PATT’s HSE Department is provided with advance notice of any confirmed projects/civil works to be undertaken and conducts any follow-up with HSE to enable works to progress as planned
  • Prepares Bills of Quantity, Scope of Works, Specifications and Cost Estimates as required
  • Assists in the design, review and preparation of working drawings for minor civil engineering projects.
  • Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by a senior official in POSINCO

 

 

 

 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Working knowledge of the laws and regulations governing construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of building codes.
  • Working knowledge of the procurement legislation.
  • Knowledge of OSH requirements.
  • Knowledge of project management reporting techniques.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and any other software relevant to the job.
  • Excellent communication skills including the preparing /compiling of detailed analytical reports and other official documents.
  • Pro-active in approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to conduct toolbox meetings as required.
  • Ability to write reports and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours as well as on weekends and public holidays to ensure that deliverables are met.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Ability to make recommendations to avert any potential risk(s) to project completion.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND WORKING EXPERIENCE

 

  • Civil Engineering Technician Diploma from a recognized academic institute.
  • PMP certification will be an asset.
  • Certificate in OSH.
  • Evidence of training in building codes.
  • A minimum of three (3) years working experience performing similar functions in a large, diverse organization.

 

Any other equivalent combination of qualifications, training and working experience will be considered.
