Scope of Role and Primary Objectives
The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) serves as the primary licensed Broker/Capital Market Functionary, Trustee, Custodian, and Investment Manager, overseeing the Group’s proprietary portfolio and client assets. As the lead registered Principal, the CIO ensures compliance with legal, corporate, and regulatory guidelines. The role encompasses setting the Group's overall investment strategy, driving growth and protection of assets under management (AUM), leading a team of investment professionals, and optimising portfolio management strategies to achieve superior risk-adjusted returns aligned with the Group's strategic objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Banking, Finance, Economics, Investment, or a related field (MBA, CFA preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of investment management experience, including 5-7 years in a leadership role within wealth management or banking.
- Membership with a recognised professional body (e.g., ACCA, CFA).
Knowledge and Understanding
- Comprehensive knowledge of global financial markets, asset allocation strategies, and risk management principles.
Key Responsibilities
Business Results
- Oversee the management of portfolios across multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income, and alternative investments, ensuring optimal risk-adjusted returns.
- Design and implement long-term, diversified investment strategies that align with the Group's strategic vision, balancing growth, income, and capital preservation.
- Establish asset allocation frameworks to optimise risk and return while meeting liquidity requirements.
- Evaluate and approve investment opportunities, policies, and decisions for wealth management portfolios, maintaining a strong focus on profitability and risk mitigation.
- Drive the strategic vision for the growth of brokerage and investment management fee income, contributing to the achievement of the Group’s non-interest income targets.
- Identify, assess, and recommend high-potential investment opportunities to maximise portfolio growth and achieve client satisfaction.
- Position the Group as a market leader by providing innovative investment options tailored to customer needs.
Operations
- Formulate and continually refine the Group’s investment policies to adapt to changing macroeconomic and financial landscapes.
- Ensure compliance with international accounting standards, regulatory guidelines, and internal controls for all investment activities.
- Monitor external asset managers’ activities to ensure policy compliance and alignment with internal strategies.
- Lead the development of financial products and investment strategies that align with client needs and risk profiles.
- Manage the arrangement and structuring of deals for issuing clients, including conducting necessary research, market analysis, and legal/regulatory procedures.
- Ensure accurate and timely accounting and reporting of investment portfolios, including performance metrics, risk assessments, and strategies for mitigating losses.
- Oversee brokerage transactions and ensure adherence to operational procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Drive the integration of advanced investment technologies, such as AI and data analytics, to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of systems, processes, and procedures that enhance operational effectiveness and mitigate risks.

- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing investment team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance team competencies and reduce reliance on external consultants.

- Ensure a structured reporting system for client interactions, including key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive business development and sales.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver investment solutions that align with the Group’s corporate image and strategic goals.
