Our Client, the Trinidad & Tobago Revenue Authority, is seeking to fill the position of Chief Internal Audit Executive.

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Internal Audit Executive is an executive leader of the Integrity Promotion Division in the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority ("the Authority" or “TTRA”) and reports directly to the Audit and Risk Committee and administratively to the Director General.

The incumbent is required to provide leadership and strategic direction to staff members of the Internal  Audit Department.

The incumbent will serve as an advisor and will support the Board of Management in promoting the highest standards of internal auditing policy, procedures, and programs throughout the Authority.

   

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads the Internal Audit change initiative by implementing action plans related to annual planning, audit execution, audit reporting, staff recruitment and development, and audit technology.
  • Oversees the execution of individual audits defined in the audit plan, ensuring the highest level of service quality.
  • Issues all Internal Audit reports to the Audit and Risk Committee, which shall include the department's ongoing monitoring activities, identification of emerging risks and/or exposures that should be considered, and serves as a "thought leader" with respect to internal control best practices.
  • Informs senior management of significant risks or exposures related to internal controls, compliance, and/or governance requiring prompt attention.
  • Develops and maintains the company’s audit process and control documentation.
  • Ensures that Internal Audit is performing its work in accordance with established professional standards and remains abreast of emerging trends and best practices that can be incorporated into the function.
  • Oversees Internal Audit's participation in critical business and technology initiatives and projects, ensuring that audit’s perspective is effectively voiced, and appropriate controls are designed and implemented on a proactive basis.
  • Maintains the audit technology platform, leveraging support from the information systems group as needed.
  • Provides direction to department personnel and ensures they receive appropriate training and fulfill their duties to the necessary standards.
  • Monitors, reports, and forecasts the department's performance by overseeing the KPIs, identifying risks and issues, and implementing corrective action(s) where required.
  • Develops and implements KPIs for the team and utilises the Performance Management system to manage and measure performance and motivate team members.
  • Provides input into the development of the department's budget and monitors and controls its utilisation.
  • Provides information for presentations and reports for Board meetings, senior leadership meetings, and various departments of the Authority when required.
  • Remains updated on relevant tools, methodologies, and technology.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

   

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • M.Sc. or equivalent professional certification in Auditing or Accounting.
  • Certification as a CIA.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience including at least five (5) years at a senior managerial level in an auditing or regulatory environment.
  • Any other equivalent combination of education and experience.

   

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of good governance principles promoting the culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to internal audit.
  • Knowledge of internal audit principles, practices and techniques, including risk assessments, audit planning, execution, and reporting.
