The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of all resort facilities. They are also responsible for managing a team of technicians and mechanics.

The Chief Engineeris responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of all resort facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. They are also responsible for managing a team of technicians and mechanics, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
They are responsible for managing all aspects of maintenance staff daily; directs, coordinates, and performs routine, preventive, and emergency interior / exterior maintenance and repairs to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of hotel operations.
Responsibilities:
Ensure proper execution of work order/request system, and that items are followed up on when necessary.
Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies and rules to ensure an efficient department.
Respond to guest calls regarding maintenance of rooms, equipment in the rooms and public area equipmentin a timely manner.
Support the energy conservation program allowing the hotel to meet its annual budget targets.
Maintain close working relations with hotel contractors who furnish reliable 24-hour emergency service.
Ensure meter readings are taken daily and review information to evaluate consumption.
Maintain asset register for all equipment
Supervise, schedule, counsel, and evaluate performance and plan the activities of maintenance staff including making spot checks on a daily basis.
Assist with the preparation of Preparation annual maintenance plans and forecasts, managing budget
Maintains a clean and orderly work area and ensures tools & equipment are well maintained and in sufficient supply
Promotes and ensures a safe working environment
Assist with other departmental tasks and duties when needed.
Qualifications:
CEM/CFM certification preferred.
Experience with HVAC-R
Experience with wastewater treatment and reverse osmosis water plants necessary
The ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics
Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations
Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
Must have the ability to assimilate complex information/data etc. from disparate sources and consider adjusting or modifying to meet the constraints of the particular need
Must be effective at listening to understand, clarify, and resolve the concerns and issues raised by colleagues and guests.
Education:
Bachelor of Science, Diploma, or College Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience and 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience in the engineering department of a luxury resort.
