Manages the engineering activities relating to the factory such that employee health and safety, product quality and safety and the protection of the environment are never compromised and that all engineering activities enhance product quality, plant performance and the business objectives

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Leads and manages Good Engineering Practices for all equipment/machinery and facilities.
  • Ensures the management of Canning and UHT Equipment and the Tetra Care Maintenance contracts.
  • Drives continuous improvement ensuring compliance with legal and Musson International Dairies Limited (MIDL) integrated management systems.
  • Directs troubleshooting of all plant process problems utilizing problem-solving methods of root cause analysis.
  • Prepares the Capital Investment plans and related expenditures according to the guidelines for capital investment and control capital expenditure.
  • Leads and manage the factory engineering team and maintain competencies, motivation and performance to achieve the team missions and objectives.
  • Ensures the correct balance between factory operation and CAPEX activities.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance of equipment and machinery utilizing MAXIMO System to monitor compliance.
  • Ensure all Tetra Pak equipment is maintain as TPMS recommended by Tetra.
  • Defines and controls the different project team execution; ensuring their completion in line with expected cost, quality and time.
  • Prepares the factory Maintenance budget and track actual expenditure and execution against budget preventing overspending and deterioration of company assets.
  • Proposes key performance indicators related to engineering. Monitor KPI and act upon variances to maintain the highest level of performance.
  • Proposes, implement and lead initiatives to deliver results in programs related to engineering.
  • Manages the engineering preventative maintenance activities. Ensure the provision of all relevant resources required for the implementation of the maintenance strategy for all MIDL assets.
  • Participates in Food Safety and S. H. E. Programmes as specified by the company.
  • Performs any other function related to duties assigned by the relevant member of the Leadership team.
Requirements 

 

Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, preferably mechanical/electrical/chemical/process from an accredited tertiary institution
  • At least 10 years’ experience in technical field, preferably in food manufacturing or consumer goods industry.

Other Personal or General Characteristics:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Engineering and maintenance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of computer based maintenance management system.
  • Knowledge of food safety systems.
  • Aptitude in the servicing, repair and calibration of plant to include UHT equipment.
  • Ability to interpret, modify and write the control ladder logic programs for Microprocessors / PLC Systems.
  • Good analytical ability; trouble-shooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read and prepare Mechanical / Electrical / Instrument drawings for plant equipment.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and lead/manage work teams
  • Project management skills

 

Accountability & Authority

  • The efficient and reliable performance of all Canning and Ultra High Temperature Equipment.
  • Managing the services and functions of the Maintenance Department in keeping with Budget and Policy
  • Maintenance of all infrastructure and facilities
