The Career Development Officer is responsible for assisting in the implementation of a comprehensive National Career Development Programme and promoting the Development of Career Development Services island-wide. The Job Holder also assists in developing and implementing the Occupational Screening System and assisting in establishing Career Information Centres island-wide.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:

ü  NVQ-J Level 5 Certification, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in disciplines such as: Career Development/Counselling, Social Work, Workplace Training and Industrial/Counselling Psychology, Human Resource (HR) Development and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Industrial Training

ü  At least three (3) years' relevant work experience in a comparable position business/work environment such as: HR division of any large Organization, a major employment bureau, a tertiary TVET Institution, an employer polytechnic/university career placement department and a Ministry of Labour department

KEY COMPETENCIES:

ü  Ability to develop and implement Occupational Screening System

ü  Ability to design and establish Career Information Centres

ü  Excellent Analytical, Diagnostic and Critical Thinking skills

KEY DUTIES:

ü  Assists in the implementation of National Policy for Career Development and provides guidance for the implementation into individual Educational Institutions

ü  Assists in the Development and Publication of Career Development materials and the promotion of the use of innovative Technology and practices for enhancing the effectiveness of Career Development Programmes

ü  Establishes a National Career Resource Centre and facilitates the establishment and promotion of Career Resource Centres island-wide

ü  Reviews Career Development Programmes and institutes/recommends corrective action to address deficiencies identified

ü  Assists in facilitating Career-related workshops and seminars within the Institutions

ü  Assists in developing, oversees the implementation of an Occupational Screening System for candidates entering the HEART/NSTA Institutions and Programmes, and leads the Development/review of Career Development Programmes at the Institutions

ü  Develops and oversees the implementation of Operational Policies and Procedures to guide the Administrative operations of the Unit

ü  Participates in the Development of systems geared towards establishing and maintaining Strategic Alliances

ü  Engages in Consultations with other Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Stakeholders and Customers as required

ü  Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; benchmarking professional standards reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
