CSEC Mathematics Tutor

 

Project:          After School CSEC Mathematics Tuition Project

Reports to:     Programme Coordinator

Rate:               $150.00 Per Session

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging and effective tutoring sessions focused on CSEC Mathematics curriculum topics, ensuring alignment with exam standards.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, exercises and activities that reinforce students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Assess students’ needs and tailor sessions to address knowledge gaps.
  • Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment that promotes student engagement and motivation.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, offering constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve performance.
  • Maintain ongoing communication written/ verbal with Programme Coordinators, on student progress and challenges.
  • Monitor CSEC Mathematics exam guidelines and curriculum changes and evaluate their impact on program.

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Mathematics, Education or a related field and equivalent professional experience in teaching CSEC Mathematics
  • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching or tutoring Mathematics, at the secondary level, in preparation for CSEC exams.
  • Demonstrated experience in remedial education, specific   to math concepts and familiarity with targeted interventions to improve performance.
  • Familiarity with student-centered instructional strategies and the ability to adapt lessons to cater to diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Additional certification in Education, Teaching or Remedial Education would be an asset.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of CSEC Mathematics syllabus, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Understanding of the CSEC examination requirements.
  • Familiarity with contemporary knowledge of techniques to effectively evaluate student progress.
  • Proven ability to diagnose learning difficulties and design customized lesson plans to address performance gaps.
  • Strong proficiency in classroom management and the ability to engage students in an interactive and supportive learning environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with students, parents and school staff.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology (e.g., interactive whiteboards, educational software and online teaching platforms) to deliver hybrid and virtual learning sessions.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Demonstration of patience, flexibility and the capacity to handle diverse learning needs and challenges.
  • Commitment to student success and a passion for helping students reach their full potential in mathematics.
