A Fortune 500 multi-national food processing and commodities trading corporation is seeking to hire a Commercial Manager/ Managing Director for its Jamaica operations.

The Commercial Manager/Managing Director will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability while maintaining strong relationships with clients and partners. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving commercial success and maximizing revenue across various sectors and markets.  Leading a team of professionals, and working closely with the operations, quality and finance teams to develop and implement strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives.  Overseeing all aspects of the commercial operations, from sales and marketing to contract negotiations and financial analysis. The Commercial Manager/ Managing Director will also manage procurement and risk management, with support from the Global Team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the commercial strategic plans in alignment with corporate objectives and  long-term goals.  Operate with an owner’s mindset and have a strategic thought process.
  • Sales & Business Development:  Identify new business opportunities, cultivate relationships with potential clients, and lead the commercial and customer service teams to meet or exceed sales targets. Coordinate with centralized procurement and Grist management taskforce for effective management of intermarket spreads and positions. Manage the competitive landscape.
  •  Financial Management: Monitor and analyze financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and profitability, and develop strategies to optimize financial outcomes. Monthly P&L reporting, forecasting and annual planning.  Analyze and distribute financial performance to local and regional leadership.
  •  Organizational Development: Foster a positive and productive organizational culture. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, including clients, regulators, and partners. Build and maintain strong relationships to support business objectives.  Be proactive with local customer’s needs.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Uphold high standards of corporate governance and ethical conduct.
  • Communication and Representation: Serve as the voice of the business. Represent the company externally in various forums, including industry events, conferences, and media engagements. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Innovation and Adaptation: Encourage innovation and continuous improvement across all aspects of the organization. Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Shipping and Logistics: Manage trade and logistics for vessels, trucks, and container freight, as well as arbitrage positions  where applicable. Understand and facilitate import and export of net raw materials, and finished products through effective collaboration with Corporate trade compliance.  Manage  and execute scheduling utilizing S&OP tools and metrics.
  • Project Management: Drive growth and capex projects through effective project management and coordination with Corporate Centres of Excellence.
  • Safety: Champion and support safety initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage potential risks and opportunities for the company (including those related to quality, finished products and co-products), and develop strategies to mitigate risks while capitalizing on opportunities.

 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record of successful leadership at a senior executive level, preferably as a CEO, COO, Commercial, Sales or Managing Director.
  • Education: An advanced degree in Business Administration, General Management, Finance, or a related  field.
  • Industry Experience: At least 10+ years of relevant industry experience, particularly in sectors relevant to the company's operations is preferred. Proven experience in a commercial or business development role, with a track record of driving revenue growth and profitability.
  • Strategic Vision: Strong strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.  Ability to envision and articulate the company's future direction.
  • Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial principles and performance metrics. Experience in financial management and analysis.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Business Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of the business landscape, market dynamics, and competitive positioning. Strong understanding of commercial principles and practices, including sales, marketing, and contract negotiation.
  • Collaborative Approach: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and resilience in navigating complex and dynamic environments.
  • Integrity: Commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in all aspects of business operations.
  • Technology: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, CRM technologies, and other collaboration tools, including virtual meeting technologies.
