The Business Development Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and driving growth and success of the Ambulance Department.

Main Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients
  • Promote the company’s products/services addressing or predicting clients’ objectives
  • Prepare sales contracts ensuring adherence to law-established rules and guidelines
  • Keep records of sales, revenue, invoices etc.
  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers
  • Creates a business that supports the organization’s mission and values based on an internal and external needs assessment
  • Ensure that resource requirements- manpower, physical and financial, are identified and supplier for all areas of the department.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the department.
  • Ensures the effective implementation and administration of  systems, processes and control measures, in keeping with the objectives and action plans
  • Supervise and direct the preparation of the annual budget, including revenue projections, budget targets and proposed goals
  • Reviews operating results  of the department and takes steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results
  • Ensures that the performance management system of the department is geared to meet the needs of the department.
  • Responsible for Health and Safety implementation in the Ambulance Division
  • Provides specialist technical guidance and interpretation of  ambulance policies, procedures and practices to management
  • Conducts interviews, make recommendations for hiring of new staff, employee orientation and ensures retention in the department
  • Collect and pay out monies on behalf of the company as sanctioned by the Director.
  • Ensure daily sales tally with monies received and all monies received are deposited with the Accounts Department. Ensure that all credit customers are billed on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that all vehicles assigned to the department are roadworthy and monitored via AVL system.
  • Ensure that all assets within the department are recorded and proper documentation of movement/s.
  • Ensure that there is proper inventory management within the department.
  • Ensure all ambulance personnel are attired in the prescribed uniform and such worn as per the company’s standard.
  • Plan, develop and implement department’s policies and goals.
  • Market the service and generate new business for the company.
  • Meet with supervisor to ensure that operations are being executed in accordance with the organization’s policies.
  • Have an active relationship with all the department’s key customers.
  • Meet customers to ensure effective service provision and act as the key liaison for customers.
  • Ensure ambulance garages and other locations follow accepted best practice in relation to good housekeeping and that matters of health and safety are reported to the appropriate health and safety officer.
  • Ensure that there is an effective system of operational inspection for vehicles and equipment within the department, including operational cleaning and deficiency reporting that satisfies and meets quality control standards and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years related managerial experience
  • Proven working experience as a business development manager or a relevant role
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
  • Dispatcher’s Certificate will be considered an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Knowledge and experience in quality management systems
