JOB TITLE: ATTORNEY-AT-LAW
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Attorney-at-Law will provide legal services and accurate advice to the Company in relation to its business, operations, products, services and clients.
Provide legal advice and support for the development planning process through critical involvement in the planning and execution phases of the Project Cycle.
Oversee and provide legal support throughout the conveyancing process that pertains to the sale and transfer of ownership of the company’s products.
Draft, prepare, review and negotiate various corporate contracts and agreements required and necessary for the Company’s scope of business and operations.
Managing and mitigating potential legal risks and exposure in relation to the company and its operations. Ensuring compliance with the relevant laws and regulations that apply to WIHCON’s business. Promote and ensure legal, compliance and risk management best practices that falls within his/her purview. Represent the company in managing the communication with external counsel, third-party bodies/groups and Government Agencies.
Represent the Company in matters before the Courts of Law.
Advise on and legally oversee and support personal accident claims. Ensure that such claims are negotiated in a highly efficient manner.
Ensure that he/she remains current with changes to legislation, laws, rules and regulations that directly affect WIHCON’s business and specific to the construction, real estate and all other related industries.
POSITION STATUS: Fixed Term Contract
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:
1. Represent the Company in legal, civil and criminal court proceedings, ensuring timely gathering of evidence and engaging external counsel whenever required;
2. Prepare legal reports and opinions on matters involving the Company’s business and operations;
3. Institute legal proceedings to recover debts owed to the Company;
4. Legally guide the Company’s operations, policies and procedures to avoid litigation against the Company;
5. Review (incoming) external legal correspondence and provide advice to the Company as to how the related matters are to be addressed and handled;
6. Prepare and or review all legally binding internal correspondence, such as corporate contracts, agreements, letters and policies to ensure compliance;
7. Ensure that high level confidentiality and privacy for all legal data are maintained for the Company.
8. Advise the Company on matters that require formally engaging external counsel.
9. Manage the conveyancing process for the company’s products thereby preparing, reviewing, collecting and submitting all related legal correspondence that include but is not limited to:
- Surrender Application
- Application to bring land under the operation of the Registration of Title Act
- Instrument of Transfer
- Sales and Owner’s Agreements
10. Liaise with the relevant Government Departments, Agencies, and Professional Bodies (such as NEPA, The National Land Agency, Real Estate Board, and Tax Administration Jamaica), as is necessary and required in carrying out the Company’s conveyancing matters and other businesses and operations;
