The Associate Lawyer will provide high-quality legal representation and advisory services to clients in a variety of civil matters. The role requires strong advocacy skills, sound legal knowledge, and the ability to manage client relationships effectively. The successful candidate will work closely with partners, senior attorneys, and support staff to deliver efficient and effective legal solutions, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Represent clients in all levels of court proceedings, including the Magistrate’s Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal.
Draft, file, and manage pleadings, statements of case, affidavits, applications, and other court documents in accordance with civil procedure rules.
Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant laws, precedents, and regulations to support client matters and provide well-reasoned legal opinions and advice.
Provide strategic legal advice to clients on a range of civil matters including but not limited to contractual disputes, employment issues, property law, debt recovery, and tort claims.
Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments to protect clients' interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Attend case management conferences, settlement negotiations, mediation, and other court-mandated proceedings.
Maintain and manage client files, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, regular updates, and professional service delivery.
Collaborate with other attorneys and support staff within the Firm to develop case strategies and share knowledge.
Participate in business development initiatives, including client outreach, networking, and contributing to the Firm’s knowledge base and marketing efforts.
Stay abreast of changes in legislation, case law, and industry practices relevant to the Firm's practice areas.
Assist in mentoring junior lawyers and providing guidance to support staff where necessary.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree and Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent qualification.
Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
Minimum of 2-3 years post-qualification experience in civil litigation and advisory practice.
Excellent advocacy, drafting, and negotiation skills.
Strong legal research and analytical skills.
Ability to manage a diverse caseload with minimal supervision.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage client relationships effectively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research platforms.
